Sad, but that wouldn't be the first time someone tried to end it all at Niagara Falls and failed. - keptupl8
it is just one more thing they get to add to the list of things that they are failures at... that has to be the biggest insult to someone who tries to kill themself because they are a failure at life.

About to be insensitive. . .
I feel no sympathy for anyone who tries to commit suicide. You mean to tell me there is on one that you could turn to help you, or that they were to selfish that they thought the world was out to get them, and the only way to get out of it is to kill yourself, leaving friends and family to feel remorse that they didnt do anything, or do enough.

Agreed.
What about the people who will line up to watch? Or better yet, the people who are lining up to watch him practice in Cheektowaga? - keptupl8
They all need to get a life. There are so many other things they could be doing with their time. Things that would be much more worthwhile or more entertaining.

I had a step-brother that committed suicide in November. It's not that easy. It's a mental illness that they don't see themselves. It's like tunnel vision. It's the sad and unfortunate truth. You can't possibly understand what they were going through and why they didn't get help. If you did, you'd probably be right behind them.

I two have seen it. When i was in high school A friends brother committed suicide. I saw what it did to him, and his family. I am a firm believer that there is always something you can do to help yourself and suicide is never an option.

You've just explained a point of view I've always leaned towards, but could never articulate well. I'm not sure I can say I feel absolutely "no sympathy" at all for the victim, but I do believe that suicide is never the "heroic" thing or even the right way to go about things. Everyone is dealt bad hands in life, often through no fault of their own. Some are worse, much worse, than others, but I generally agree. Taking your own life isn't the answer. Somewhere, there's always someone else that has it worse. I look at all these cases we see about people being bullied at schools and committing suicide because they "can't take it anymore", and then I look at kids in third world countries that we see and hear about. I'm sure they'd trade an education that comes with ridicule, even as bad as it is now, for the excessive poverty and lack of a future they currently have.
I understand it's not an easy situation, and the decision to take one's own life isn't made on a whim (most of the time, at least), but that doesn't mean you can't say it's the wrong decision.

I would say one of few exceptions is somebody in the military about to become a POW and tortured to death.

Fair enough, but in that case, the alternative is death either way. You could make the same argument for 9/11 victims who weren't getting out of that tower alive no matter what happened.
