So you think he's on the big club next season? Sure looked great in pre-season. Or will they put him on the Heat for a year? Is he even AHL eligible in 12/13?
- Fosco

He can play on either his junior team or in the AHL as he's 20 before January 1/2013 which is the cutoff date.

ya he should make it for sure. he could have last year, but it was a good choice to send him down and let Horak and Byron take a stab at it.

The playoff run he had is a great confidence builder. Better then what he would have dealt with if he made the team.

Leiland is the one they are going to have issues with since they can't send him back down any more.

I don't think he's the answer for kippers replacement

Thanks, born in 92 I guess. Was too lazy to look it up. Knew he was in the same draft year as Jensen, so I wasn't sure.

Too bad Jensen has to go back to jr. (unless he makes the Canucks ). Although there was something on the Wolves website a while back that said he would be eligible, but I think someone made a mistake.

No longer exempt from waivers due to games played?

Goalie Guild is pretty high on him, ranked #9. Should be a more than capable backup if you guys keep Kipper.

He's RFA and most likely will not go for a 2-way contract anymore. Which leaves the flames with two backups (leiland/karlsson).

Leiland could be a backup. But I think thats his peak. Other people are more excited about him.

I think Ramo would be better suited as a backup, since he could potentially start.

Ramo could eventually become more than a backup. Always had potential, and put up a few good seasons in the KHL, although it is a lower scoring league.

That's what the Canucks will be hoping to sign him to, likely. Not sure what his inclination is, but I would think he'd push for the 1-way. They'll get a contract signed, either way.

edit: Gillis will probably push for at least a two year contract, because if he signs a 1-year and plays less than 20 games in the NHL this season, he becomes a UFA in 2013.

This spring kinda sucks, no playoffs and a late first round pick that'll most likely be a project. Outside of Schroeder, Jensen, who I love as a player, and Kassian, we've got very little in the pipeline regarding prospects to make a push for a roster spot in the immediate future.

You gotta think Connoughton(spelling sucks) will take a run at the 6/7th d-man shortly here, he had a pretty good year in the ahl.

I'd be willing to give everyone a hard look in camp. For cap reasons we need at least a few roster players on entry level contracts.

Lack, Cantana and not sure if you consider Tanev.

Sweatt is a good player as well, 3rd liner. Could be something like Higgins.

And I still say, good player, but goalie is the last place the Canucks need prospect depth for the near future...

Gillis would have to lose his mind and/or be on drugs to not take a forward or D.

Me too. You'll be hard pressed to find a bigger Edler supporter on this board than myself. I think I was starting to piss people off.

I can't think of too many D in the league I would rather have. He had a bit of a rough season, but there aren't too many Canucks you can't say that about.

- Fosco

Agreed. He's still only 26 years old, I think a lot of people on here forget that he could easily win a Norris trophy at some point during the next couple of years. You would have to be crazy to move a potential franchise D-man when he's about to enter his prime.

Outside of adding more skill in the top six, I think the biggest priority for Gillis this offseason has to be acquiring the right partner for Edler. There is no one on the Canucks right now that is a good fit for him. If the Canucks can find the right partner for Edler, I think he will silence a lot of people on these message boards. If I'm Gillis, I'm looking for the following qualities in a potential partner:

-Physical shut down D-man with a mean streak.
-Makes a good first pass out of the zone
-Capable of throwing an open ice hit

He doesn't need to be the most talented offensive player in the world. Just responsible defensively and good in his own zone. Also, I think pairing Edler with a physical partner would probably also make him more aggressive. Edler can crush people when he sets his mind on it.

Apparently Garrison plays the right side, even though he's a left shot, he'd be a perfect partner for Eddie!
