What will we be trading for ? - VANTEL
Good question.
We need a number 1 or 2 defenseman. I think that's obvious. But Gillis doesn't do obvious. He's proven to go "off the board". I wouldn't be surprised if he goes for top six forward again. Another big name, big contract. He's got to make that push. He's not going to improve this team at the trade deadline. Teams aren't willing to deal assets to top clubs unless you pay big. The draft seems like to only time Gillis has an opportunity to wheel and deal.
If your team has a good scouting staff, they can compensate for no 1st round picks. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks in a draft are untouchable imo, every other pick after the first three are tradable. Have a look at my last post. Not many gems in the 1st round for our Nucks. |

I think Girgensons will be gone sooner then you have him (ahead of wilson for sure). And that being the case I hope Calgary takes colberg.
Baert/Backland/Colberg will be a good young line (hopefully we trade for another center in the meantime).
Wilson might be something that would work with vancouver. Essentially another Kassian though (but Kassian has better hands).
Could see Canucks trading schneider for a higher draft pick and getting a solid D prospect, to build around with Tanev. But realistically Canucks need some play now players since its their window for the cup now.

no one thinks Matteau might sneak on that list? He could be a good 3rd line center that canucks need behind sedin/kesler in a yr or 2 |

I would love Sissons, Gaunce or Wilson. I like how Gillis sticks with the best player available though. It's a shame Tinordi didn't fall to us 2 years ago, Gillis would have never made the Ballard trade and we'd have a potentially great shutdown d-man in our system. |

Are the Flames going to try to re-sign Jokinen?
I would not mind if he signed for 2 years here for 6 mil or less. 2.5 per would be great. |

Ideally, assuming of course he falls and we take him, Galchenyuk could be the future #2 and Strome could slide over to wing. I like Dumba's game, makes me think Subban. I just want to take the best player available. If Murray is gone and Gally or Grigorenko are available, great news for the Isles. - eichiefs9
If i were snow I would want a defenseman, Niederreiter, Okposo, strome will be around a while you already have a franchise center in Tavares and a potential second line guys in Bailey or Brock Nelson. Trouba would be a strong pick for them if Murry is not available Dumba is overrated IMO |

And speaking of Trouba there isn't a chance in god's green earth the wild pass on him if he is available they are a magnet for Minnesota borns, its good they don't have to resort to drafting the high school kids this year |

I think the Wild will contend very nice this year with Suter and Parise. |

Do you think Burke keeps the pick? If he trades it away to get Nash (for example) do leaf fans revolt? - bloatedmosquito
I think the pick becomes in play if Galchenyuk is gone. Maybe Grigorenko too. I don't mind going after Nash for the right price (obviously) however. |

Both drafted in 2003, before the wild got to pick, not sure either will be available after the way the playoffs have gone. |

Gillis made the Ballard trade before Tinordi was taken, so he would have done it anyway.
If Tinordi was still available, Florida was supposed to get the Canucks' 1st rounder in the following draft, so the Canucks could have taken Tinordi, instead of the one that year which Florida used to select Howden. |

I said it last year and I will repeat this year ,Canucks will not win nothing if Ballard Raymond Manny or Weise are in our lineup. |

Curious why you think the Sharks need to rebuild their defense first (rather than their forwards)?
I'd say....well, they really just need the best player available for their first pick (they could use some quality prospects at every position). But they *seem* to have a few pretty good defensive prospects (Wrenn, Doughty, Petrecki...? Granted all have some question marks); but they seem to be really (REALLY) week in forward prospects (especially after Wilson traded Coyle last year....ugh, still turns my stomach.)
So I'm really curious how you see the Sharks prospect system.

At this point they're all dead weight. Malhotra would be good at less $$. Ballard would have had a different fate in Van if he had been used properly, and he could still likely be an effective defender, but AV doesn't trust him, and he's too expensive for a bottom pairing.
If they're keeping Edler, they should take whatever someone will offer for Ballard and sign someone cheaper. |

I am still angry that they are bringing back AV .
If Gillis brings back any one of those four there will be rallies |

Of course, completely forgot the actual details of that deal. For those questioning Gillis'/our scout's judgement, he's shown interest in some solid players who have really improved recently(Tinordi, Backes, etc.). Just imagine if the Blues didn't match that offer sheet. |

I hope they are keeping Edler. Unless you are going to make a ridiculous contract offer to Suter, Edler is still the Canucks best chance of having a true #1 on the blue line. |

Agreed. And IMO Suter or Weber will not be as effective when they're finally split up unless they go to a team that already has a number one type d-man that they can play with. |

Me too. You'll be hard pressed to find a bigger Edler supporter on this board than myself. I think I was starting to piss people off.
I can't think of too many D in the league I would rather have. He had a bit of a rough season, but there aren't too many Canucks you can't say that about. |
