I agree, market is everything. Like Briere's deal. The Flyers paid for the best forward available that year. It's a great deal too if you consider the alternative was Chris Drury.

Unless simmer plays outif his mind next season homer has to do what he can to extend hartnell. I believe he will. I'll toot my horn a little bit. At the end of last season I was one of the minority that was against trading him. Much of the strengths of his game go unnoticed. He wins the majority of board battles, a good power forward like him are hard to find. He's not the best in coverages in his own end. But he his position just doesn't warrant that he has to be. On the other hand a second line center should at least be average in this regard.

For a team that could arguably add some grit, Hartsy is a key guy to have. He can chip in offensively too as we've seen throughout his career. He plays a very underrated game.

Until very recently, it was common and "no big deal" for a hockey player to try to play through a concussion in the playoffs. Now that there's a concussion protocol that every team is supposed to follow, yes, it could be a big deal if it could be PROVEN (and that's almost impossible, since no one will talk about it).

BTW, I thought Game 5 of the NJ series was Grossmann's best game of the series. But he looked "foggy" to me in the previous games. His reactions were much slower.

- bmeltzer

I totally agree. Thats what is kind of "weird" the fact that no one is talking about it.

I'm just curious if the league were to find out that he played with a concussion what is the penalty? Fines and Loss of draft picks?

I know. But Briere's performance, especially in the playoffs, compared to a guy that retired and another that has scored 9 goals in his last 118 games makes his value a lot better.

Would love for the Flyers to get Parise (this offseason) or Perry (next offseason). Money will be tight and these guys are going to cost some major coin but I like what they bring to the table. If the Flyers add one of these players they can afford to deal a player or two for a defenseman.

The other possibility, of course, is that they got a second opinion from a doctor who said the knee is treatable with rest/rehab rather than surgery.

But then why not just say that?

Have the Flyers ever been up front with anyone regarding injuries?

Is it possible he was cleared from the concussion and played then when knocked out of the playoffs he started to get symptoms again? Maybe the Flyers could of allowed Grossmann more time to rest but since it was the playoffs and he passed the test they let him play. I really dont know. Very shady.

In the off-season, yes. And this is just a pretty common knee injury, that was already public knowledge. So I do think some clarification is in order -- if the knee was, in fact, the only problem -- from how things went from "needs knee surgery and is taking injections to get through playoffs" to "knee is fine" within 10 days.

Per Bill on twitter, Grossmann's agent says that the defensemen's knee is fine and will not require surgery.

I'd take Allen on my third D-pairing anytime.

agree. not sure he's really a good fit for the flyers right now, per se, but before they added grossmann, i would have been happy with him.

He was one of the guys I was interested in when Pronger got hurt. Cap hit wasn't ideal, wonder if he's expecting a raise.

Extra strength Tylenol?

I hope it wasn't a concussion issue but I'm with you. Seems like a cover up.

I wonder if they did it just to tweak the media. Seems lately Philly teams are all trying to mess with the media. Poor media

2.9M last year you would expect him to get a raise. I was under capgeek not sure why Carolina has Jeremy Welsh for 17.9M cap hit?

Did I miss something?
