Van, Tor, and Edm all have good chances, and all are likely near the top of the list. Unfortunately the rest of the NHL will also have a chance if he becomes a UFA.

Edm has a bright future and he'll get almost-guaranteed top4 minutes. Tor also has a decent future and can offer minutes. Van is near his home, he grew up a Canucks fan, and they will also have 1 or 2 D spots up for grabs. I could also see Detroit taking a run at him if Lidstrom retires and they don't get Suter.

Most you guys, not you specifically, don't criticize Kessel, and the other guys who should be leading this team along with Phaneuf.

Phaneuf is to blame, along with the rest of the roster for this team's failure. But despite the struggle, he came out with some decent stats. Leadership which everyone complains about regarding Phaneuf, is not something fans can knowledgeably speak about. He did fail to lead this team to success, sure. But so has Nash for year after year, which is where this argument actually began - comparing those two.
