So we're not even signing our own RFA's (Frattin, Scrivens, Holzer)? - The Shrike
Ok, you might get that done too i guess.

Crosby could score 100 points with actual penguins on his line. - robin_steele264
kessel can score like 85 with a team 26th in the league, can score 38 goals on a line with tyler bozak.
put crosby with kessel and he'll break gretzkys goals in a season record |

Every team will be in on this player... If the Gardiner comment holds true, then maybe the Leafs are out in front. The Leafs also being as putrid as they have last season have spots available on D. - Mr_Smokey
Mckenzie says the Oilers!!!
bug off!

i was completely kidding about the gretzky comment lol, but yeaah he'd break 40 for sure, the only thing im worried about this year is that his point totals could drop because of carlyles style..... |

wanna just combine the leafs and oilers? - Phil_kessel81
Not really.
Burke and Lowe would work well together though, Im sure of it.

I think we both know that's not happening
Oilers a few years from now when they're most likely a powerhouse... - Mr_Smokey
I think it could certainly happen, Oilers can offer him a lot in terms of playing time and talented youth to grow with.

i could see it being something like ovechkin in washington, points and goals decreased. But the overall performance of the team went up. Except for this year, i have no idea what the hell happend
edit: most likely injuries |

What happened is Ovechkin had a leash on him. When you don't let your skilled players utilize their obvious advantage, your chances of winning as the level of competition increases is lesser, not greater. |

Oilers young core has a little more upside me thinks.

Very true... to which I'll respond - when was the last time a player "chose" to go to Edmonton without being grossly overpaid?
btw I'm not hating on Edmonton |

I guess last year when Eric Belanger, Ben Eager signed..
I could pose the same question about the Leafs.... not like UFA's flock there.

Odd how they slipped my mind...
No one is flocking to Toronto.... outside of Komisarek Beauchemin and a few college FA's... We get scrubs like Connolly. Point is that high profile players.. even this kid to a lesser extent will not sign in Edmonton until that team proves that they aren't the worst in the league. |

I'm always baffled as to why people think Staal has this kind of value. Kulemin alone has achieved more offensively than Staal. More than that though, the real issue with paying a king's ransom for Staal - and this goes for any team, not just the Leafs - is that he will be a UFA in a year. I think it's pretty clear from McKenzie's comments that Staal probably has some desire to play with his brothers. You're essentially giving up a 20 goal scoring power winger, a top 5 pick, and a 30 point defender for 1 year of Jordan Staal - who has a career high of 52 points.
-
No one will pay this kind of price for him, in my opinion. - hockey-nerd
You're realism is very refreshing and we're in desperate need of it here, lol. |

J. Staal for next years 1st, Schenn/Franson and McCarthur/Kulimen/Kadri. Deal? - Allstarzz
I'm not saying I agree with the deal, but if given your perimeters, I'd be pissed if it was more than next years first + Franson + McCarthur.
Any other combination of those options, and it's a no go from our side. |
