I think with Staal only having 1 yr left it will be hard to get market value for him. Who knows what he wants too. He already has a cup so he may just want to cash out and be one of the top 2 centers. (I would). At the same time it seems Crosby and Malkin are better when the other is out. (I dont remember was Malkin around when Crosby was on fire last yr?) Either way the cap is restricting the Pens from keeping these guys and to have a solid team up and down changes need to be made. Espicially with injuries, if 1 of the top 3 go down it really hurts our offense. Spread the wealth.

Just came up with the Winnipeg Jets/Evander KANE idea because I thought it would be a FAIR deal....and considering that STAAL is "supposedly" asking for a big salary raise.
I trully believe that getting E.Kane would shut down all the complaints about not having a winger to play with from that whining guy that wears #87...haha

I want it for game flow reasons. Concussions are going to happen in a contact sport, it sucks, but its reality.
- Gunner Staal

Not to get into a concussion conversation but my wife just went and saw Sid's doctor. Now our PCP said she was fine and should return to work. Sid's doctor ran a bunch of test and found that her eyes and brain aren't communicating properly. She now has to go to therapy for it. Incase any of you have children playing sports make sure you get them to a specialist. I never questioned sid but now knowing more and it hitting closer to home I never will. This service message was brought to you from the concussion institute of America.

Thank you!

I'd consider that. Kane can score goals and is young and is a tough player. I'd prefer to have 11 but I don't see us fully winning any trade if we trade him. If he leaves I bet he will regret it for years. I know he wants to be the man somewhere but being the man isn't easy.

I have no problem with that at all. As long as something with the D is addressed. If Im Crosby I want a better winger to play with. I think that's the reason he took his cut was to bring in a top 6 for him. I dont think Dupuis or 3 centers making 5+(adjusted for Staal's contract increase) is what he had in mind.

that sucks... wonder what he will go for....

edit: jackel just posted his blog and in it is this:

Third, I have heard nothing further on Patrick Kane trade rumors. That isn't to say that nothing will happen there. But it has quieted down quite a bit over the last 72 hours. Stay tuned.

Interestingly, if Kane can be traded for a top 6, natural center (or more), it does solve a serious issue this team is facing. But that comes back to Hossa and his health. If Hossa is not progressing enough to say he will definitely be back, then Kane's value as a right wing is almost impossible to replace.

thought it was funny bc we are talking about this

Staal isn't getting traded to Winnipeg. He has one year left on his deal, do you honestly think that he'd re-sign long term in Winnipeg? They won't give up a great young player like Kane for a guy that they may only have for one season.
- rival22

so you know for a fact that he wouldnt resign in Winnipeg...?

obviously the other GM in any trade is going to want to talk to Staal's agent to see if he would resign there.

I understand he is a jerk but he's still a good player and probably the best asset we would get for Staal because of his off ice problems. Needs a strong leader to keep him in line. To bad Billy G is gone.

To clarify Kanes off ice antics not Staal's and I know some will say Toews is a great leader but I meant an old grizzled vet like Roberts or Billy G

The Pens would have to give them permission to talk to Staal or his agent... Which at that point, the trade is out there, and it's hockey media circus time.

well if staal is wanting a big raise, then i couldnt see him getting anything less than neal. Even though we would love to keep him at 5.5 mil, it leaves us nothing to work with when letang, orpik, and some others need to be resigned. It would be awesome to get e. kane, but he would demand the same thing and we would be in the same predicament. I guess what it comes down to is the salary cap for next season and how the CBA looks. a 3rd line center i wouldnt mind is jared stoll

Or we could trade Malkin+Martin for EDM 1st. That frees up enough for Suter, Parise and Yakapuv, resign Staal...Not a bad team IMO.

Seriously though, by the start of next season I think Staal or Malkin will be gone. With regards to Letang, I know a lot of ppl worry about him and what he will want. Orpik and Kunitz will be UFA's when Letangs contract is up, I dont see the Pens resigning either of them. Orpik is getting old and beat up, Kunitz will be around 34 I think, so that should be enough to keep Letang and there will be more cap room of course.

I really get a feeling the more and more you post, you have no clue. You think Malkin and Staal will be gone by the start of next year? You would trade Malkin and Martin to Edmonton for the first overall pick? This is all I need to know.

I'm a Patrick Kane fan but I'd take Evander Kane and his playing style for Crosbys wing first.

Staal + for Enroth and Myers.

Kidding aside I don't think the jets will be trading him. I wouldn't mind Patrick Kane but .... to many ? marks about his personality. We have enough of those type of problems on the Steelers presently.
