Rochester > Edmonton Haha

I have rarely watched Lacrosse. I'll trade a million Lacrosse championships for the Oil Kings to win the Memorial Cup this year.

I've watched a little of the indoor stuff, it has been entertaining but I've never fully engaged in it.

I would personally like to thank the NHL and NBC for making sure I couldn't watch a minute of the games this weekend. Keep the afternoon games coming!

At this point in the season they should be done with the afternoon games. I missed both games this weekend as well, not that I overly cared, I've been watching more of the Memorial Cup.

So Malkin finished the worlds with 11 goals the most ever plus NHL scoring leader. Last guy to lead in both was a famliar name, Gretzky. Nice year for Malkin.

well back from my ban after making a comment on the flyers page and getting banned by a flyers ref that was obviously mad about the game... but whatever.

1. penguins need changes, none of this make one or two moves and we will be fine. there is a difference between a regular season team and a playoff team. the penguins havent been a playoff winning team since 09. we lack the sandpaper and character that we once had.

2. Staal needs to be traded. i have become a much bigger staal fan, but he isn't going to be able to produce here like he can elsewhere. Winnipeg should be our trading partner and evander kane should be our target. great player, still young, physical, he is the player Crosby needs on his LW.

Kane-Crosby-Dupuis
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal

3. Our bottom 6 needs to be worked on. I like Vitale, Adams, and Cooke (to an extent) in the current roles they have. Sign a real 3rd line center like a Sammy Pahlsson or a Chris Kelly. Trade Tyler fricking Kennedy and go after someone for the RW. I wouldnt mind if Shero went after Chris Stewart. Good player but his head isn't always there. Then i say you go after Brandon Prust in the offseason. he is the type of guy we need. hard hitting grinder that has energy on and off the ice. im sure the Rangers will do everything to resign him, but if he gets to July 1st, Shero should go after him. another guy i would be interested in if Prust resigns would be Travis Moen.

Cooke-Kelly/Pahlsson-Stewart
Prust-Vitale-Adams

4. Defense- Letang and Orpik are our top pairing. HCDB screwed them up when he separated them. Put them back together. I think Michalek could be a good dman and a guy that was unfairly lumped with Martin at times. Michalek needs a physical partner because he can't clear out the front of the net. Lots of dmen will be there on July 1st that are physical. Despres and Niskanen should win the last 2 spots. I think Orpik-Letang can develop into our go to pairing with a good balance of offense-defense. Michalek and our FA signing can be a very good shutdown paring and Despres-Niskanen can be our PP guys and Bylsma puck moving defensemen. Engelland is a good guy to have around for the 7th spot. Martin needs to go. he is still a good dman, just not a guy for the penguins system, plus he is overpaid by 1-1.5 million. a team will get him from us.

I don't want them to be looked at are 1-2-3 pairings. all 3 pairings have good dman and time should be split evenly. A lot of problems we faced late in the season i feel was because our top guys were overworked. Guys like Niskanen were fresh because he didnt play as much and he missed some games with an injury. spread it out and let the guys play.

5. Goalies- MAF is still our #1... and on a side note, the sky is still blue. The question is who is #2. Johnson and MAF clearly have a good friendship, but we need a goalie who can take 20-25 games from MAF and give us a chance to win all of those games. Johnson can be that goalie, which is why i wouldnt be opposed to bringing him back, but if we can upgrade the #2 spot, you have to do that.

that's my "Five Steps the Penguins Can Improve" piece. hope you enjoyed.

and to whoever was talking about Harrington, Huddle likes him a lot but he feels like he needs some more seasoning and needs to work on his offensive game. He also said that Morrow could contest and get a spot on the penguins next season. wouldn't be a huge fan of that, but you gotta let the kids player eventually i guess.

i think it was Yohe on Twitter that mentioned the hate towards Malkin during this tourney and he made 2 good points.

Malkin had 8 points in 6 games plus he was never on the ice for the penguins biggest problem, the PK.

Malkin took some dumb penalties and made some dumb plays, but he wasn't why we lost.

and i might add, it was good to see Malkin play like he did all year. he worked his @$$ off in the offseason and it paid dividends for him. hopefully more of the same next season.

Malkin was awesome this year. I have no complaints at all (nor should any other Penguin fans). As a Penguins fan most of us have been spoiled with the insane once in a generation talents that have played the last 30 years for Pittsburgh (we have had 4 "once in a generation talents" Lemieux, Jagr, Crosby, Malkin).

Our top 5 players (salary wise) take up 50% of our salary cap. Leaves us with around 32 million for 15 players and this doesn't even include Z and Staal. If you include them then that leaves us with 24 million to sign 13 players. I understand scoring was not an issue in the playoffs but secondary scoring will be an issue especially if we do what a lot of you want to and that is trade Staal. He made our 3rd line a threat. Jeffery, TK, and Cooke won't scare anyone.

Secondary scoring was kinda slacking last year. TK didn't follow up 10-11 with a season we all were hoping. Sullivan and Dupuis were pleasant surprises but I highly doubt Dupuis can repeat a season like he had and Sullivan may not be back. After that we are kinda weak. Obviously if Letang and Crosby can stay healthy that will help but if not. . . . .

agree with being greedy as a pens fan....

i was reading an old article about trade partners for staal. minny was brouught up as one: would this work

staal and tk for 7th pick, seto and harding?

or

staal tk, tangradi for 7th pick, seto, harding and clutterbuck?

harding is a throw in bc he is a ufa and wants to be a starter but i dont think a team will pick him up as a starter so we might be able to sign him as flowers back up.

or he might walk as a ufa like hamuis (sp) did...

i still think martin might be able to command a high 3rd and maybe even a prospect... he is a good defensemen just not with the pens..

with Z's surgery i dont know if he will be tradeable, but I can handle him on the team if martins gone... but still with strait and burtuzzo having to go through waivers, depres being ready and hopefully resigning nisk, that still leaves us with letang, orpik, lovejoy, engels. Plus you never know about morrow, he could be ready too...

and we all know dupes will be paired up with sid if we dont pick up a top 6 rw

if staal gets traded a top 6 scoring winger needs to be coming back

need another top 9 winger during free agency

need to do something about the D, pens have too many and the 2 highest paid arent worth it and atleast one needs moved, cough cough martin cough

My only complaint with Malkin is he still takes some dumb penalties.....especially when he's frustrated. Other than that, talk of trading him is LUNACY.

Staal isn't getting traded to Winnipeg. He has one year left on his deal, do you honestly think that he'd re-sign long term in Winnipeg? They won't give up a great young player like Kane for a guy that they may only have for one season.

I would like to see jeffrey on a wing when hes 100% healthy... I think vitale could be a good 3rd center...
- nh4442

I don't think Vitale has enough offensive skill to be a 3rd line center in this league. I like him as a 4th line center, but you a third line center who can chip in once in a while.

Nobody is perfect. Malkin addressed his physical ailments this past offseason, I wouldnt be shocked to see him evolve emotionally as a player this upcoming year. 70 PIMs this past season was his lowest amount in the NHL (if you dont count his injury shortened 2010-2011 campaign).

I thought at times Vitale wasnt extremely effective even as a 4th line player. Love his effort, but he has some room to grow and should not be considered an option for third line.

lol i think we had this debate before, i think if he sees 3rd min time, he might be able to up his game, plus he doesnt need to be a 30 goal scorer but he can be a shut down role player

Yeah, I have never been a big Vitale supporter. He showed me very little on the offensive side. He can play fourth line and I would be completely fine with that. Jeffery can handle 3rd line minutes once he has this summer to rehab his knee.

I hope so, but I have my reservations about that as well. He doesnt have a large sample size of success at the NHL level, it could go either way IMO.

Yeah it is definitely a toss up but I am hoping that he wasn't looking sharp this year because of the knee. Even Malkin was slow and hesitant when he came back from a similar injury. This is me being optimistic. ha

I think Jeffery started to really show something last year before the injury but I could be wrong.
