I don't care how old he is, has nothing to do with how bad he was last year.

Every single player on the Leafs looked terrible except Kessel, Lupul, and Bozak.
Your saying nothing right now. |

I'm saying I don't want to trade anything of value for Schenn. He's slow as (frank).

What he's good at doesn't require him to be "fast". His skating is actually above average for his role.
I don't know what you consider "value", but if I'm a GM and its a reasonable deal, he's a player I'm interested in. |

I watch him a lot. If you think brutal giveaways, terrible foot speed, bonehead plays and no offensive upside is good, then I guess you would be correct.

Every defensemen makes "terrible" give-aways. Especially young ones. Most young dmen take around 300 games to get fully acclimated. Schenn currently sits at 310.
Now that his development isn't being destroyed by Ron Wilson and his terrible coaching, I expect him to thrive. He's already shown he can dominate in his own end. I fully expect him to do it more consistently under Carlyle, a coach who implements a system that much better suits Schenn's game.
His game never really had much offensive upside. Career high is probably 35-40 points tops in a career year.
I watch him a lot too. I have seen him struggle. The difference is I recognize them as the typical growing pains a young dman goes through, and you just think he sucks. |

Tell ya what... When Schenn actually does start playing good and 'thriving' I'll be the first to admit it. But until then, as long as he's playing bad and sucking, he sucks.

"Paajarvi (frank)ing sucks"
I'm going to remind them that he has tremendous potential. But right now, he (frank)ing sucks. And as long as he (frank)ing sucks, he sucks. |

Yup. This is the NHL. If you're gonna play and not perform, you're gonna get called out.
I don't even think Schenns potential is much more than a bottom pairing dman anyway. I'm open to being proven wrong.

Well he's already proven he's much more then just a bottom pairing dman.
I agree for the most part though. He plays a solid all around game, just unspectacular. The only reason he's as well known as he is is because he's a Leafs first rounder.

Yep, that's a lottery lineup. - Jack-artist
No matter what lineup the Oilers ice, they are more than likely looking at another lottery pick. That is unless Hall, Ebs, and RNH, literally turn into Messier, Gretzky and Kurri. But still they'll each need to put up 100+ points to bail out the blueline and the circus that is the Oilers defensive zone play.
Also, Schenn is an immediate upgrade over anyone on the Oilers defense. Except Shultz and a healthy Whitney. |

Tambellini has yet to demonstrate he can be an effective GM with the Oilers. I doubt his coaching hire will do anything to change that.

Upgrade over Peckham maybe.

I dont mind the forward lines TBH but the defense needs work.
I would call Jason Garrisson if he makes it to UFA and see if he will do 2-3 years at 4 million or less
If not you call these teams about these RFA's or you offer sheet...
Nashville, Jonathan Blum
Toronto, Cody Franson
New York, Micheal Del Zotto
Montreal, Emelin, Diaz, Weber
Buffalo, TJ Brennen
Washington, John Carlson
Vancouver, Marc Andre Gragnani
One or more of those guys has to be on the market or at least available for the right price.. Sure Emelin, Brennen, Del Zotto might cost you a 1st round pick or that level of prospect but you get defensive help which the oilers need bad! heck I bet you could move the 1st round this year to montreal for their 1st Diaz and weber... Then you get 3 defensemen for Yakopov... Or if Murrey is gone you get Gally... its a no lose situation for the oil drafting 3rd.. (5th is to risky unless you trade down from 3rd for Franson and the 5th) then you trade with winnipeg or carolina for a 1st and 2nd and get Rienhart or Trouba! but now we are just being rediculous... but I think you need to look at expendable assets for other teams and see what it takes to get those rather than targetting their best player ala Shea Weber...

Richard Cloutier: End of an Error - Maxbone
The Oilers owed Tom Renney nothing. They paid him to do a job, he did the best he could and obviously it wasn't good enough for management. So they refused to re-new his contract. You can't tell me that he didn't have any idea at all that he might get released. People get fired every day of the year. Most don't make as much in a life time as Renney made in the two years he worked as the Oilers coach. This is life! For those of you who feel so sorry for him, send him some money so he can holiday in B.C. a bit longer before he has to start using up some of his millions in the bank. |

I second the notion on John Carlson. I think he performs well when the pressure is high.
I'd also consider the following players:
Doug Hamilton (Boston is bare bones on the RW and might be willing to listen)
Marco Scandella (Minnie could always use some scoring)
Alexei Emelin (i only wonder if he's better than peckham/teurbert.)
Tim Erixon (NYR's defense looks pretty set as it is. not a lot of room for youth)
Karl Alzner (I just like me some Alzner, he'd look good on the Oilers' blueline)
It's be decent of the Oilers to pick up someone who's of pure blueline offense too. Names like Ryan Ellis, Ryan Murphy, Kris Letang, Erik Karlsson come to mind. Obviously those players are untouchable but should the opportunity arise, someone to QB the PP would be nice.
