Holland is a very smart GM.

I'm just curious to see how some of his draft picks turn out.

- mochoson

He has been G.M. for what 5 years now? shouldn't his picks be starting to make the team didn't he draft Howard. I did notice he started getting bigger name UFA's than Devalanno did. Devellanno signed guys like Maltby and Cleary both guys were chances that turned out and Holland has signed guys like Bertuzzi, Modano, Rafalski and they fit in. See my point?

Detroit also has a great history of turning rejects into useful players (ie Dan Cleary)
- Starbuck

Devalanno was the G.M. who took the chances on guys like Cleary and Maltby. Holland takes chances on older bigger names like Modano, Rafalski, Bertuzzi.....etc.

Really funny thing about Lowe as G.M. was he was a tough SOB on players and their contracts see Smyth and Comrie. I still say Horcoff was paid as a 1st line center when Peca and Pronger and Spacek and Tarnstrom were all bolting. Did he panic and think that he had to overpay to keep Horcoff? He was right on the first Smyth contract dispute as Smyth left the Islanders for 6+ million to Colorado. was Smyth going to sign for the $.25 that Lowe offered the numbers speak for thamselves. He was right on the Comrie dispute Comrie wanted 1st line center money and Lowe said he hasn't put enough numbers up yet. He was right on the Penner offer sheet (the first and second year sucked) but when Penner started scoring 30+ goals a season Lowe's contract was a value. I think Lowe is so tight you could put a chunk of coal up his Azz and he would shyte out a diamond.
Fans have it all wrong on Lowe.

Well I think he definitely was underrated as a GM. It wasn't his fault half of the players he brought in had vaginas, and wanted out.

I'm glad the Vanek offer didn't go through though.

Devallano did't go out and find the big name UFA's they Made the UFA's they signed into big names like Cleary a third liner in Edmonton that wasn't reaching his potential and the same goes for Maltby. Where as Holland has targeted Bigger name UFA's on their way down but that had already made their name in the league. Modano (Dallas), Bertuzzi(Vancouver), Rafalski(New Jersey). You see the major difference?

Holland also hasn't had to dip into FA much at all. A lot of their roster is comprised of talent developed within.

My whole point was most of those picks weren't actually Hollands picks. However, the scouts and player development personnel could all be the same or close to it. I have no doubt that have found NHL players in the few that I listed previously.

How good they become, remains to be seen. It will define Hollands legacy in Detroit, IMO.

I think what my major point is the scouting staff being the same I think Holland is getting a lot of the Burke treatment walking into a situation that was set and then getting credit for work that Devallano actually did.
Burke got the same treatment in Anahiem with all the work Murray already did(Draft picks etc.)

He was decent at keeping the team competitive, but he went a little crazy post 06.

Holland has been GM since 1998 and Cleary landed in Detroit back in 2005. That would indicate that you're talking out of your ass.

It's the same crew that has called the Oil Kings for two years on the Team 1260.
On the TV it's the standard sportsnet crew calling the game.
Where are the monkeys you speak of?

Barons enact a measure revenge against the Marlies in game 2, winning 5-1. Paajarvi had 2 assists and Hartikainen had a goal. The Duo now has 8 and 7 points playing on a line together.

Maybe we can stick them on a line together next season...

Hall ~ Gagner ~ Eberle
Yakupov ~ RNH ~ Hemsky
Paajarvi ~ Horcoff ~ Hartikainen
Jones ~ Lander ~ Eager

*Some players will switch from RW to LW or LW to RW, and if they don't like it, they can suck it*

Whitney ~ UFA
Petry ~ Smid
Schultz ~ Sutton?
Peckham or Potter... Nobody gives a sh1t.

*Whitney regains his awesomeness*

Dubnyk
Anyone but Khabibulin, because he is sh1t.

*I just wanted to point out again that Khabibulin is sh1t*

Since Hall is our only legitimate top 6 LW, is it possible that maybe they try and get a 2nd line LW like Ray Whitney?

Just move Yak or Hemsky there. Did Hemsky ever play on the left wing?

Edit: Yakupov shoots left... Maybe he'd be able to play the LW.

Where did Belanger go? Lander is a downgrade at this point.
