we had some good young forwards, our defense wasnt as strong as it could have been, goaltending was a question mark. Canada should of had the support from more of there star players!

where were:
E. Staal
J. Iginla
P. Burgeron
R. Nash
J. Spezza
D. Boyle
S. Stamkos
B. Seabrooke
S. Webber
D. Heatly
T. Myers
A. Pietrangelo
C. Grioux
R. Loungo

Crosby and Towes were more then likely still hurt from the regular season and prob shouldnt have been playin in the playoffs. I think Price is hurt to.

But there is no reason that Canada should get more star power. Wash was the last team to get knocked out of the playoffs and Ovi and Semi jump at the chance to play.

Got to ask ... when you look at your roster, you don't think it was good enough to get it done without the names you mentioned? Obviously, you didn't, but alot of significant names on that list that made the trip.

I look at the American roster and we are relying on a bunch of no names, for lack of a better term (Crabb, Abdelkader, JT Brown, Dwyer, Thompson, Palmeiri, Slater) and we haven't hit the defense yet. I shake my head how we have gotten to the point where we are in this tournament.

of course it was strong enough. we could replay that game, bury a few of those chances and win 6-3. and with a little luck, go on to win the tourney.

but theres just very few pushover games anymore.

u bring it every night, or u lose.
especially to teams that have the type of talent that slovakia has.
even teams like the swiss and the germans that play a system, can get strong goaltending and can give anybody fits.

i think the biggest difference to the olympic squad is by adding those 5, 6 more true superstars, teams like canada can afford to have an off night abit and still pull the victory out.

its a team game, and the american squad is playing that way beautifully, regardless of the names on the jersey. they outplayed the hell outta canada btw.
but its by neccesity. come olympic time, it'll be filled with marquee names.

I agree about the funding and yes Hockey is our staple, and I understand it completely about deserving more freedom and luxury 100%

My biggest issue is the way Hockey Canada determine National level status (ie who represents us at the international tournaments)

Most sports its either an Olympic qualifying mark (running) or winning a national championship (figure skating/curling) and you get to represent canada

Hockey/Baseball/Basketball its all done through selection camps. And for the purpose of being transparent I think they should all have the same requirements.

So lets use Hockey Canada:

Hockey Canada establishes a 60 man roster (30F/20D/10G). Every August, Hockey Canada would host a 1 week camp (would also help players get in shape for NHL)

At this camp would be the 60man national squad and perhaps 10 invitees (Your Ryan Murrays if you will)

At the end of the camp, Hockey Canada must now re-establish their 60 man travel squad, and this squad are the onyl players who can play for Team Canada for one full year (World Champs/World Cups/Olympics) (Any IIHF sanctioned event)

If for some reason World Champs loses majority due to playoffs, then Hockey Canada has to fill the squad with these players first (i.e Spezza) before going to Kyle Quincey

If a player wants to represent Canada at any IIHF event, they must commit to this program. 1 week of the year, plus 1 tournament a year, all for the sake of repping Cnada at olympics (biggest prize)

This would be transparent and would make everything much easier
