I'm sure some want to trade him just for cap space - funmaster18
Honestly, the sheer value that JvR seems to posses in trade talks makes me want to keep him more. Reading other writers around the NHL, JvR isn't a guy who has low value right now.

He's been known to pull the 'bait and switch' on his students, fair warning. - BulliesPhan87
so if he won't teach me to force choke and zap people with lightning he'll teach me how to bring back dead people? Then I can bring back Pelle Lindberghe and then we can female dog about him being too short, oh wait dayum

That is something I have found to be true in some cases. I have a good job, and my debt is manageable. I know folks with degrees that haven't been able to find work for a long time. - Jsaquella
I feel bad for those types. It's killer, to feel like you spent years and a boatload of money you didn't have to end up working at a Wawa or whatever.

The Force can't bring back the dead. Only this guy can do that

Last time he promised the power of resurrection he quickly turned around and called it a 'secret' he'd have to discover. Personally, this deal sounds worse all the time, you'd be better off getting a job with Cutco.

It is sad. Of course, some of those with degrees sometimes seem to feel a job where they have to do manual labor is beneath them.

I think you have to take into account those people's job seeking skills too. I took a whole course on that in college. It's not a given that you have a degree and walk out of graduation with an employer beating down your door. First you have to get a degree in demand, then you have to market yourself and display a certain level of aptitude in the field you are pursuing. This is a broad brush to paint with so it shouldn't be construed that I'm saying all these people without degrees are showing up to their interviews with clothes dirty and their breath stinking either. I'm just saying a degree just adds value to your resume, not make it an automatic job magnet.

If you cant find a job.. point the finger at yourself first... because more than likely its because you dont want to be out of your comfort zone. Very few people graduate from college and immediately land their dream job.

True. Gotta pay the bills, and nobody's going to gift wrap that 'perfect job'. Sometimes it takes those long nights, impossible odds, and keeping one's eye to the keyhole, so to speak.

Exactly and if iirc from the job seeking class I took in college, some employers like to see a diverse background in the working field, i.e can you step out of said comfort zone? It really all depends on several different conditions, not just oh I have a degree now employers will line-up for me, no it doesn't work that way.

I'll be at work ignoring it all.
People need to realize, Bryzgalov has 8 years left and a NMC. He's the goalie. If thy make a goalie move, it will be to bring in a veteran back-up. - Jsaquella
I'm convinced Bryz can take us where we need to go. If he doesn't win a vezina I'm not worried about that, he just needs to help us win a cup.

That straight up offer for Niemi offer didn't exactly blow my socks off; and I don't think that highly of Bryz. Then again, maybe SJ has that popular disease where they stake Niemis value on a few games in a playoff series from years past.
The kid is 23 and is coming off a injury plagued year..
I love how the focus is always.. "He was the #2 pick". So lets see what we actually have in JvR.
We have a young hybrid power forward. Lets set this straight right off the bat. He is not, and never will be, John LeClair. He isnt Milan Lucic or Scott Hartnell.
JvR is more like Jeff Carter than those players. He isnt 6'3'' 220. He is 6'3'' 200lbs. He isnt a hulking player.. but he absolutely knows how to use his size. After his rough start to last season, he turned around and really took off. How much so? He was only leading the team in goal per game avg. From January on. Only Jeff Carter had more goals in the second half of the season. JvR was scoring at a 40 goal pace over the last three and a half months of the season. He took over in the playoffs and showed what he is capable of.
JvR is soft and doesnt hit. So the 107 hits he dished out last year is actually a farce. His isnt nasty. I would totally disagree. He doesnt drive the net, yet was directly involved in a bunch of goal crease scuffles, goals, and made contact with Marty on several occasions.
How about this. Be patient. Big guys take a bit of time to mature. They no longer can rely on the fact that they are bigger than the rest. His adjustment period is right on par with other top flight big guys.
Joe Thornton:
1st season- 55 games 3 goals, 4 assists 7 points
2nd season- 81 games 16 goals, 25 assists 41 points
3rd season- 81 games 23 goals, 37 assists. 60 points
Jeff Carter:
1st season- 81 games 23 goals 19 assists 42 points
2nd season- 62 games 14 goals 23 assists 37 points
3rd season- 82 games 29 goals 24 assists 53 points
Milan Lucic:
1st season- 77 games 8 goals 19 assists 27 points
2nd season- 72 games 17 goals 25 assists 42 points
3rd season- 50 games 9 goals 11 assists 20 points
*Like Bill said.. he started the year at a 60 point pace.. and injuries derailed him. He has shown over his career his play gets better as the year goes on.. 65+ points really werent out of the question this season.. but injuries prevented that.
Ultimately, JvR is developing like a lot of other bigger players in the NHL. Have patience! - jak521
Amen. Great post. You backed up your points with factual evidence. And made very reasonable points. You can either do that, or just label JVR a disapointment.

Right now, I think one of the worst things you can have on your resume is prolonged unemployment. There's room for sympathy when the chips don't fall one's way, but... well, hockey analogy: you can't throw the game because the puck bounced unfavorably on the first shift. You still have to play the other 59 minutes.

yes but he didn't have the Art Ross before November so he's a bust
