I think the League office would have something to say about that. And I don't see any team being stupid enough to risk the penalties.

I recall many years ago the Flyers doing something like that to avoid losing players to waivers or something. the rule was changed after too. Crap my memory is bad

man, this offseason cap is gonna kill the flyers's chances at getting parise unless they undergo wholesale changes again. what a snafu. IMO a guy like parise is someone you should sign at all costs
- flyerscup2011

Nice player. The Flyers can always make room at the draft by trading away a player or two. Not sure what Homer's plan is but I would rather see them find a way to upgrade the defense if possible. Now if they cant do that then I'm all for trying to land Parise.

That dead cap space can't be sent down during the season, though. I'd rather have the space at the TDL and sweat out the remaining year.
- BulliesPhan87

Yeah I suppose its an option if they are really in a pinch over the summer. Walker's buyout seems more plausible. Other than the cap savings it will free up a Contract spot which they sometimes get in jams with.

I know, I'm way behind the times on my televiewing. To be fair, I was only five years old when it first aired

In response to all of this talk: Who cares, doesn't matter, Bryz is still gonna be the goalie and that means they aren't winning anything. Thank you.

Take all the darts this summer, label half of them "Shultz" and the other half "Parise"

Interesting. So if Bryz wasnt here they would win? Gotcha.

I find it refreshing to know that I can clear my calander for next season, and not waste any of my personal time rooting for the Flyers. While also alleviating myself of any emotional stress or attachement to the Flyers. Knowing that they won't win has really made my life easier. I feel like a 2 ton rock has been lifted off of my shoulders. Thanks T.S Downe.

P.S. How about the Phillies T.S? I'd really like to put that time to better use also if they're not going to win.

You know what's more plausible for Walker. Having him not count at all once the Season starts.

Yes, Flyers tried to hide Acton and Peters.....I forget the circumstances:

28-Sep-89 futures from Winnipeg Jets for Pete Peeters & Keith Acton
3-Oct-89 Pete Peeters & Keith Acton from Winnipeg Jets for Toronto's 1991 5th Rounder (Juha Ylonen) & futures (cancellation of 7/21/89 futures)

After Sept 15 there won't be a CBA in place, meaning there's technically no cap agreement being circumvented, meaning there won't be much of a legal basis for penalties to be issued for activities taking place during or overlapping that period of time and the start of the season/execution of new CBA.

I wouldn't bet on that. So you think a team can do whatever it wants after Sept 15?

I think it was something like you could only protect a set amount of players with the rest being subjected to waivers so they stashed the two on the Jets til after the waiver period. something like that

The Flyers have a pretty good team already. May just need an upgrade in net.

Last I checked, in the NHL, cap circumvention schemes fall under 'business as usual', and that's the expectation they're working under while they bang out a new CBA.

Clearly you have brains. This should be the focus of their offseason.

Forget Carle and Jagr and whomever else. Trade rights to Voracek. Parise and Giroux would be awesome.

There were some good comments during the Kings (aka Flyers West) game last night. Once they traded for Carter, everyone else was put in the right slot.

We have a little of that problem I believe. No top line winger/scorer for Giroux is an issue. Jagr did more than expected but is not the answer. He makes a nice 2nd line winger at this stage.

Voracek is not all world like Giroux. Not close.

1st line players: Harts worked but normally a 2nd liner. Giroux. Maybe JVR. Maybe Schenn.

2nd line players: Jagr Briere Voracek Maybe Read. Coots.

3rd/4th line players: Talbot Wellwood. Zac. Simmonds.

so IMO we have an abundance of 2nd line players and a sufficient level of 3rd / 4th liners (maybe I'm missing a player or two as well). Some people want another veteran role player - fine.

Since we have Briere and Coots, both at center is what makes sense. No changing that.

These are my thoughts.

So yeah, just like front-loaded contracts, stashing contracts in the minors, etc, this kind of summer scheme is just waiting to be tried, and considering the timing, the possibility of incurring sanctions is at an all-time low.

i do not see an upgrade in net coming, unless it's done on the cheap somehow. i think it would be very wise to acquire zach parise, 2 way player, great offensively, clever play maker and a great finisher. could you imagine him on a line with giroux? or on a second line with briere and simmer?

edit: i suggest him on a "2nd" line to spread out the scoring. he clearly is a 1st line player

Clearly solidifying the defense going forward is a far bigger, or should be, priority going forward. Clearly Giroux doesn't need an "all world" Winger to play with to be successful. A Parise would be great. But it's not neccessary by any means.
