If the NHL played on an Olympic sized sheet of ice he would be a pretty decent defensemen.

agreed...

i like the fact that he can get the puck out of his zone consistently...

i don't like his turnovers in the offensive zone or his alexi zhitnik-like shots from the point which invevitably end up with an odd-man rush the other way

Honestly, Edmonton and Buffalo are not good trading partners, unless we want Yakupov, then we are overpaying for the stigma of the "Num 1 overall", when we are better off trying to get Galchenyuk at 2 or 3. It will cost less and Colombus has just as many needs as the Oilers.

IMO hes a decent dman in the NHL. Some games he plays like a top pairing dman and others he plays like a bottom pairing dman. So I think overall it averages out to a 2nd pairing guy.
- Rally_Shots

sabres have plenty of "puck-movers" in the system...

would tj brennan be that much of a drop-off?...would pysyk?...and...

what's the difference between sekera an leopold other than experience?

Not sure I agree with that part. Cant have a guy getting consistent top 4 minutes who has propensity to play at an inconsistent bottom pairing level. Consistency is the name of the game for top 4 defensemen. That is why Paul Martin and to a lesser extent Michalek are the targets of scorn from Penguin fans.

I agree we have plenty of puck moving dmen in the minors, but I think putting TJ Brennan in over Sekera is a pretty substantial drop-off. Brennan might not even be a NHL dman. Pysyk may be awesome in the WHL, but I dont think he's quite ready for the NHL. Maybe a year in Rochester will get him there.

I think the biggest difference between Sekera and Leopold is that Leopold has a knack for the net and seems to be much better at moving down into the slot to pick up a goal here and there. Sekera for some reason just doesnt seem to be able to make those reads.

- Rally_Shots

brennan is an offensive d-man who's been focusing on defense and seems to be improving every season...

if the top-four heading into next season are ehrhoff, myers, regehr, leopold with mcnabb as another one in the mix, i'd rather move on from sekera who'll be a $2.75m/third-pairing d-man

For a couple years now, it was "a proven fact" around here that you don't win with a high-end goalie. The way to go is goaltending by commitee. Having one guy be the man doesn't work any more.

Rags - Lundqvist
Devils - Brodeur
Yotes - Smtih
Kings - Quick

I respectfully disagree...

Like the last time he played for his national team his stock is rising which now is the perfect time to pull the trigger.

Jordan Staal where do I sign up?

I would say only Osgood and Niemi were not "high-end" winners since the lockout. Ward won the Conn Smythe, that speaks for itself, and Giguere, Fleury, and Thomas were all terrific #1 goalies during the Cup runs.

Im pretty sure I'm the biggest Galchenyuk supporter on here (along w gerbe)...
But these kind of trades are nuts

Let's say Galchenyuk is a 100pt player...
Is he really worth...
-Roy, 65-70pt player
-Sekera, whose value freaking skyrockets every time he plays an international tourney (saying he "outplays" chara is a joke... He's 5xs better than him! Minimum! Wow... Why can't he play for us like that?)
-and then u also wanna give them THREE potential top6, top4 guys?!
HELL NO!
And like I said, I really, really like Galchenyuk

- jdfitz77

Ive said it before. Roy+1st+Adam+Pysyk for CBJ 2nd overall. CBJ needs a center for Nash.

Also I would try to move Staff+Nsh 1st+ BUf 2nd to see what that would give you in return. I would expect something decent.

Sekera for a 2nd Rd pick or up and coming prospect.

Thats 11Mil in cap space cleared plus with Boyes and Hecht leaving it adds up to about 18.

Just throwing it out there. Sometimes when an idea gets repeated over and over again, people accept it as fact. It doesn't make it true, just popular opinion. When those opinions turn out to be false, they are often convieniently forgotton.

Another example was the notion that we NEED to trade for Brad Richards. That one looks like it was dead-on accurate at this point.

Boyes contract pretty much becomes Myers contract and Ennis is going to need to get paid also

Nash is most likely going to be traded this offseason from Columbus. So trading Roy there doesnt make too much sense.

Also why would you try to move Stafford? Staff/Ennis/Foligno proved to be our best line at the end of last year. Stafford is the only Sabres forward with talent who has the foot speed to keep up with Ennis.
