columbus wants NOW players not a UFA in a year (roy ) and a mediocre defenseman. lets not kid ourselves...we all know sekera is worthless hes a #4 defenseman at best and nothing more. this guy has been a healthy scratch multiple times over the past two years. a lot of you guys with these trade proposals are so ignorant
- HAMgerber

And you know what Columbus wants more than the rest of us how? Are you Scott Howson? Didn't think so. Now who's being ignorant.......

In 99 Burke at one point or another held every pick 1-5.

Plus I figured Ek can put BS up and gets paid for it, why can't I?

- dadeadhead

Not saying it couldn't be done. Just that the GM there isn't capable enough to get it done.

i understand the q stigma but to go against your point, hockeydb.com has him listed at 6'1 and 200 lbs. not bad at all
- HAMgerber

Like I said, he's more the 5-11 ish.

Wiki he's listed as 6-0

Espn 6-0

Yahoo 6-0

NHL 6-0

TSN 6-0

Catenacci has put up 70+ points in his first 2 years in the OHL. I'm sure if he was in the Q, it would easily be over 100. He was drafted in the 3rd round, so sounds like Richards went right where I would have expected him to.
- HonkFortheGoose

touche. but cat is undersized if i were to nitpick this argument. at the very least he was worth a mid to late 2nd rounder. oh well...too late now.

I think he was a steal in the 3rd round. I would have liked to see him be a bit more productive this year, but being that he was on a new team, that may have caused a few more growing pains.

Something crazy is going to happen at this draft.

The players in the top 5 remind me a ton of that years top 5.

i mean obviously i dont know what exactly they want but sheer logic says that they want now pieces, or at the very least pieces that say they can contend for a playoff spot starting two years from now. i mean come on their fans must be so tired of never having won a playoff game...theyve been in the league since what like 2000? 2001 ? ive been to columbus for 3 games so far and they have GREAT fans for a franchise that has literally done nothing since its inception

again, im just basing my theory off the fact that management desperately needs to put quality product on the ice verrrry soon

I wouldn't have used ignorant but thats just me.

That said after the failed Carter experiment, why would they want to bring in Derek Roy?

That was the logic I used.

very true, and torts system is a bit more defensive oriented. but the other side of the argument is hes playing alongside gaborik (who i think is underrated...even though he continues to disappoint with production it seems ) and yes, i know gaborik did light the lamp a little this season

Yes, they want now pieces. That's why everyone is coming up with these scenarios of what players on the Sabres could be moved there for a chance at their pick. It makes the most sense. But you essentially turned it around and said we're being ignorant for even suggesting them. Now, let me remind you as well, that I have not once said who the Sabres should send there for a pick or anything like that. That being said, trading Roy there as a package with Sekera would not be a bad idea for them. They get 2 guys who are more than capable of playing well for them and can contribute now. Not really sure what we would get back for them, but they would help Columbus now instead of in years from now.

realistically, the allure for a free agent/ a player with a NMC to come to buffalo has worn off after this disappointing season. sure t pegs can fly around and assure that hes willing to spend to the cap and do this and that, but so are at least ten other gms in this league

the best bet for us to improve this team is not via free agency or even for players with nmc via trade

we have never had so many quality draft picks/ prospects as bait as now , and its time to use them

IMO mcnabb is gonna have to be used as bait, as painful as it sounds. we all know that hes going to be a stud, but in order to get you have to give.

Because Carter wasn't playing center in Philly. He was playing wing. Roy has been productive as a center for years now. He had a down year but that was supposedly attributed to the fact that his injury was something that wasn't going to be fully healed going into the season. Based on his play toward the end, it seems like he may be over that now. I just think that Roy could be more productive there in a #1 spot than Carter was because he's been playing as a #1.

Refering more to both players being supposed locker room cancers.

McNabb is the 1 prospect that I would like to see more from before I decide what to do with him. I like what I saw out of him this year. I watched a lot of Rochester games on TV and saw 3 of them in person. He's a monster out there when he's comfortable. I think once he gets a bit more time under his belt at the NHL level, he'll be a real PITA to play against. He's big, nasty, can QB a PP and has great PK skills as well.

first, you seem like one of the more logical people on this site. so i thank you for contributing to useful discussion on here

BUT youre kinda going back to my point. sure sekera and roy "contribute" now....sekera will be there for years if hes dealt there. but you KNOW that a guy of roys integrity would be dealt there, have a good year, then bounce for free agency. which is exactly what columbus doesnt need. they need more quality (key word: quality) pieces for several years if theyre going to give up the #2 overal pick

Good point, though it seems like Roy was a cancer because him and Lindy weren't getting along. Carter was a cancer in Philly because he slept with Hartnell's wife.

couldnt agree more. which is why i say you gotta give to get. i wonder if other gms are as high on him as we are. anyone who has seen him play around 5 games can tell you hes going to be a stud

If Columbus is trading the #2 pick it is going to be for one corner stone player, a defensiv prospct, a top 9 forward on a multi year contract, and multiple draft picks IMO.

I never said they were giving up the #2 pick though. I said I don't know what kind of return we would get out of them. Sekera is a solid 3-4 guy. Columbus's defense is a mess. He would be a good fit there. Not every guy that a team is going to try and get is a "big fish." As far as Roy's integrity goes, we honestly can't even say what kind of guy he is. None of us personally know him or have any idea of what his intentions are. He may very well like being in a city like Columbus where he could be a "rock star." They don't have a lot of other stuff going on there, so he'd be someone who's famous getting him whatever he wants. I could be completely off base, but then again, none of us really know what kind of guy he is.

what i think people on the sabres blogs neglect to recognize is the fact that a top 3 offensive player in a draft would contribute say 50 pts immediately at only 1.3 salary cap hit ( i believe that is the rookie max) that being said, you can ship out a player on this team making 4 mil per year and still get the production, then bank that 3 mil and spend elsewhere.

if i were darcy id ship our two 1sts, a second, 3rd, and pysyk in an attempt to grab yak, yuk, or grigorenko (although the grigor rumors to russia tank his stock)

the problem with this is the teams in slots 1-5 all want immediate roster players for those picks

Unless he plays for Ohio State, they could careless about Derek "Party Boy" Roy.

Yakupov will make 3.75 mill with his signing bonuses
Galchenyuk if taken at 2 will make roughly 3.5 mil
and Grigorenko if taken at 3 will make close to 3.2 mil.

They make more than what you think.

I did forget about Ohio State, but in turn, that means there's lots of college aged girls there. Still something I could see him liking.
