I thought that Cody kid from Van was supposed to assume the 1st line center duties?

We dont need a star center... Just 3 that can all contribute, Im all for moving up for Galchenyuk, but please no ridiculous trade for Getzlaf or Stastny. I would rather build through the draft then trade a bunch of peices for guys who supposedly are number 1 centers on teams who also did not make the playoffs ( Getz, Stastny). I really dont wanna see Pysyk traded either. In 2 years it could be Myers/Pysyk, Ehrhoff/Mcnabb. I hate to say this but I wouldnt mind Darcy not trying to splurg this offseason. There are much better FA's and a stronger draft class next year.

What would the Sabres realistically want?

From Edmonton, a shot at Galchenyuk. You'd obviously get our first first, as well...

Even worse call on Brown IMO. He got a penalty for what? Smith losing his head? That was just ridiculous. Last time I checked, a goaltender isn't allowed to use his stick as a weapon.

Honestly, Edmonton and Buffalo are not good trading partners, unless we want Yakupov, then we are overpaying for the stigma of the "Num 1 overall", when we are better off trying to get Galchenyuk at 2 or 3. It will cost less and Colombus has just as many needs as the Oilers.

That was atrocious. I can see giving him 2 to prevent shenanigans later, but that was too much of a bang-bang play for a 5 minute major.

Something like that. Still ridiculous. I think the Doan penalty was bad, but he at least did something to warrant the penalty. All Brown did was fall down because he got chopped in the back of the legs.

Devils advocate, 1 is as good as 2 there. If you agree that you'd be willing to give up Sekera and a 1st for Galchenyuk, why not give Edmonton a shot at Tim or Columbus for that matter. Maybe Edmnton could get more of what they need (current dman with upside and a draft of another), in which case good luck to them.

They said the reason he got 5 was because Lewis was bleeding. It's an automatic call if there's blood. Just like with high sticking.

He wasn't just tapped and fell like some of the guys do. He was absolutely chopped on the back of the legs. There's a big difference.

Its funny how the draft works. Right now when talking about a top 5 pick and making trades, there is a name associated with that pick ( Yak 1st, Yuk 2nd) but when talking about the 12th overall pick there is no name associated, just the pick number so it's easy to get wrapped up and overpay for that early pick because you know who your gonna get. Take the Sabres draft for example, Armia went 18th, Larsson went 4th. If you were to tell me at the draft that Darcy was going to trade the 18th + Roy and Sekera and whatever to move up to 4th, I would be all for it. But now that there is an actual prospect associated with that pick (Armia) Im not sure I would be willing to give up Armia + 2 or 3 other peices for that 2-5 picks. I just think it's interesting how the draft works in that respect

If the Sabres believe that Galchenyuk is the prize of the draft, they need to get into the top 2 picks. I've seen mocks with him going 2nd overall and I doubt he gets past Montreal.

It's hard to say what Montreal is gonna do because of the new GM there. You can pick out patterns in the guys that have been with their teams awhile. The original thought was Montreal will go with a defensemen. Someone that will be a cornerstone on their blueline for years to come. Now, I'm not so sure.
