i was pleased even before couturier was selected. i just felt it was a good thing to move him (and richards, but less so). that return only makes it better, as you've said. the flyers could easily have "lost" the deal. i really soured on him after the columbus situation.

I felt that it was a fair deal when it was announced, same for the Richards deal. I liked both guys, but Carter's actions before reporting and in Columbus really soured me on him.

But if Couturier continues in his development and Cousins becomes what the Flyers feel he will, that's a great deal for the flyers

Knowing what they got with the pick, absolutely. Knowing that Carter sulked his way out of Columbus, only strengthens the case to be made. I gave Carter a lot of slack until then.

Crazy thing is, had Coots been selected, Flyers probably select Doug Hamilton. dH is getting great reviews from this past season, some scouts calling him the best d man not in the NHL. Win, win. It will be interesting to see how their careers develop.
The Bruins have Sequin and Hamilton as a result of the Kessle trade throw in Rask from a prior deal and Toronto would have a great young stable of talent....Good job Burkie

Hamilton would not have been a bad consolation prize, but no way they could pass on Couturier when he fell. Isles and Jets are going to regret not taking him the most.

I remember when the reporter asked Homer if he thought Coots would be there when they chose - Homer had a little smirk and said "Ah, no". He looked like the cat who ate the canary.

The Flyers got that card to the podium so fast it was like Holmgren was trying to avoid getting a phone call about it

Ohh...ok. I see now...

By the way, I wasn't trying to be rude or caustic there. When I reread my post, it came off as such

Oh it was my bad. W/o the 2 days thing, its completely theoretical and no one knows.

I saw Scott Hartnell and a squeeze yesterday, strolling hand in hand along Chestnut St. Our man was wearing Capris and a striped t-shirt, and looked pretty fit. The somewhat ethnic looking chick lit a smoke when I passed them by.

Is this agent speak? I think Semin has the ability to be an all-around forward, but if he gets paid, will he want to be? I'm not sure.

That must've been his problem during the playoffs.

Going into seclusion at his Sea Isle house, forcing Howson and Nash to fly out here to coax him into making a simple, "While I'm upset about being traded, I look forward to the challenges in Columbus" statement, then being about as mentally engaged in Columbus as I am when I'm loading the dishwasher and continuing to sulk.

Not a very exciting game so far. Tight checking, very difficult to get a puck through to the net.

you know what it is. carter's a good player. my point is that he seems to shrink at this time of year, and the numbers bear that out. i'm thrilled with what the flyers have acquired.

I don't see it that way. If that's the outlook you want to have on, that's fine. He didn't force Howson and Nash to do anything. Nor did he go into seclusion in his Sea Isle house. He did the right thing to take some time to himself so as to not react emotionally and say something he didn't mean. That reaction was the mature way to handle it. Reports I saw said that he was fine in Columbus and was a good teammate. I don't think he sulked at all. This is just more media driven bs. And if he was unhappy at Columbus, I don't blame him one bit. He had every right to be.

I'm thrilled with the return also. And I'd make that trade again and again. Carter is going to have that rep until he starts scoring at a higher rate in the playoffs.
