Do you think the Blue Jackets could beat Marlies? - jak521
Better question for me is how does Scott Howson essentially accomplish the following:
Trades Voracek, high 1st round pick (Coots) for Jack Johnson and low 1st round pick
And still remain employed by his team? I don't have any confidence Columbus is not going to get killed when they trade Nash. |

the comment section under that should serve as a big explanation as to why Tim doesn't write like that too often. I guess you have to cater to your customers. It's a shame that there are so many of them that feel that way. - JoeRussomanno
There sure are a group of very vocal numbskulls in the area.

Not good. However he took a chance on Carter that he could be that number #1 center to go with Nash. I dont think he expected that 1st round pick to play this year but the Flyers got a steal because Coots dropped in the draft and their were questions that he might not make the team out of camp. Trading Carter to get Johnson and a 1st isnt terrible imo as Cater was pretty useless in his time there (plus he didnt want to be there from the beginning). But in the long run it looks bad and they signed Wisniewski to that big deal as well I believe, outch! |

Somehow, Columbus has to get young talent back for Nash. Unfortunately, Nash's cap hit is way too high, I'm not sure who will take on that type of money and give back something good in return.
I really like Nash, but not at $7.8 million especially when G will have to be extended in a few years. |

In the right situation.. that could be a very good deal.. If Nash was paired with some decent players.. he would put up scary numbers, while still being a very solid three zone player who is good in the lockerroom.
With that said.. Im happy without him. |

I still think that Nash if traded will end up in SJ this summer. |

Agreed, I'm not sure Howson can land Courture, which he really needs in this type of trade.
Quick question about the Flyers, personally I feel if the Flyers sign Carle, they have no interest in Suter. I think both guys are similiar and the cost to get Suter who is better, but not that much better then Carle to justify his contract.
Anyway, let's say Weber stays in Nashville. Who do you think Homer would call to trade a forward to get a young potential possibly under the radar d-man?
My list, no particular order:
-Subban
-Gragnani
-Ellerby
-Bogosian
Trying to think of potential other d-men, I think in the end the Flyers are going to have to trade for a d-man, I don't think it will be Weber because the Preds will give him everything short of minority ownership to keep him. |

I'd be calling Phoenix. They have good solid young defensemen and 3 highly promising kids on the verge of making the NHL.
I'd also be on the phone with Chicago, just to see if Seabrook or Keith was a possibility under any circumstance. John Buccigorss has been saying he expects changes there, so no harm in asking |

I know the Flyers have loved Seabrook for many years, Keith contract length is a bit scary. Who is the best prospect in Phoenix, not too familiar with their assests? |

I think Calgary might be a team willing to blow up some of its team.
Maybe Giordano might be available also. 4yrs at 4M still left on his contract.
He may call Chicago and Phoenix. There are players available but it depends how much money they want to take back on a player and what type of pairing player they look for. |

Hjalmarsson. What if Chicago was willing to move him? Interested?
2 years at 3.5M left on his deal. |

Bouwmeester's contract is a killer for Calgary. I have to admit I thought he was a stud and was really hoping the Flyers could land him before the Pronger trade. |

They have David Rundblad, Brandon Gormley, Michael Stone, Connor Murray and Chris Summers.
Rundblad, Gormley and Murray are very highly regarded prospects. Stone and Summer are solid prospects, but a step behind.Right now, their big three are Keith Yandle, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Rotislav Klesla |

The Flyers really need a puck mover more than a stay at home defender type. |

Understandable. I was thinking more of the Flyers signing Carle and adding him for third pairing rather than trading big assets and only adding one big defenseman. I'm willing to do this and wait one more season for Weber. |

Got to have more irons in the fire than Weber. Seabrook would be ideal, kind of a poor man;s Weber. |

I thought Kane was a badger
Seriously, I would think Seabrook would be exactly what the Flyers would be looking for in a defensemen. Can do it all with some real grit to his game. $5.8 million for 4 years isn't bad for a top pairing d-man. He is one of the few guys I would ship JVR to get.

I agree. Need to have another plan if you cant get Seabrook either though. I'm just thinking Chicago would be more willing to move him before the big two. |
