100% accurate .....Getting rid of Gomez for Mcdonagh..and someone else whose name escapes me, was a major building block to getting their rebuild done effectively. Tenacious defense, a willingness to block shots and take the body, a demanding coach...the goaltending.....the making of a cup contending team for many years to come ..unfortunately.
- Mike C

Sather should have been named GM of the year for finding someone stupid enough to take Gomez' salary AND give him McDonough and Higgins in the process.

Looking at the Rangers, its hard not to respect the hell out of what they've done. Great coach, great players. I hate the organization with a passion, but I respect what the Rangers have put together since the lockout. Leaps and bounds better job that Crazy Charles and Snow.

I could care less who wins. The Isles are out of the playoff for the fifth straight year. I'd prefer if the Rangers lost, but truthfully, I don't have the energy to root against them. I just don't care.

This is going to be a brutal couple of weeks to go on top of some brutal years for Isles fans. Whoever wins it will not be good. I wonder how Charles can stand it? He has such passion for the team.

In 2008 we drafted Bailey, Hamonic, Matt Moulson, Poulin, Ullstrom, Matt Donovan, Ness, Spurgeon, Dibo, Petrov, Toews, Niemi, and Trivino...
Rags drafted MDZ, Stepan, Grachev, Kundratek, Dale Weise, Doyle and Gaulton..
I will take our draft over theirs...

I have no idea how Gomez trade happened it was an unbelievable trade, but lets not forget Sather is the moron who gave him that contract.

The sallary cap forceing them to this "model" is not ridiculous.. it is a fact. Ask a Ranger fan. They will be the first one to tell you that... As far as their great players they got in their ranks... A Great goalie and a Great coach makes a lot of people look really smart. Sather is still an idiot.. the best thing he ever did for the Ranges was when he was Edmonton GM and traded them all the Oilers' players to get them their one cup.

Famous Sather contracts:
Redden ... I don't need to bother do I?
Gomez ... um.. wow
Bobby Holik.. 5 year 45 mill
Rozsival.. 20 mill 4 years
Kasper 5 years 25 mill
Drury 5 years 35 mill
Boogard ... rip. 2 mill a year 4 years..

other Sather moves: Jessiman great pick instead of Getzlaf, Parise, Mike Richards.
How about theother first round picks Cherepanov, Sanguinetti, Montoya etc. etc.

you want to hang your hat on Stepan.. go ahead. He is not exactly a 40 goal scorer.

- niteislander

I'm no Rangers' fan and I don't think Sather is the "great GM" that his reputation says he is. But, if you look at the Isles and the Rangers since the lockout, Sather had done a far better job of building a team than Milbury/Smith/Snow have and at the same time did it with home grown talent and have a pretty solid prospect pool, one that an argument can be made is better than the Isles' prospect pool.

You can cherry-pick one draft year if you'd like, but I think in fairness you need to assess the total body of work. Sather's was dog s**t before the lockout, as bad as the Isles. Since then, he has done a much better job than his Isles' counterparts have.

yeah, it's a little bit irritating to see him listed as a "failed Rangers first round pick"

Just think the team will get actual press coverage in Brooklyn. The Daily News will write more than two words about them. Not that it's the fault of the press. When the owner does not care why should the press?
- ses111

I was just quoting Ed Norton (Art Carney) from one of the Honeymooner episodes when asked by a reporter where he lived. His answer was the "Garden Spot of America", Brooklyn USA!

I agree with you. Brooklyn would be fine at this point in time.

Tickets would cost more and it maybe more difficult for Long Islanders to get to games, but not as difficult or as expensive as driving to Quebec.

It would be a comfort to have the Isles only 15 or so miles to the west knowing that they wont be going out of state anytime soon. Who knows what will develop over the next several years if the team ever become competitive. Once you begin to win. Seems everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Including politicians.

Isnt The LIRR Atlantic ST Station in close proximity to Barclay's??

I agree Jethro it's done. Brooklyn is the only real option in NY at this point. It's a very good option.

I hear you the kid did not even have a chance, and from all teh reports I was reading he was supposed to be the real deal but we will never know. Oh and tell the Rangers to stop playing such close games it is driving me nuts. I can just imagine what a Ranger fan feels

Even though hockey is not football having a pro team in Brooklyn is a huge deal. The Isles should have more than enough support. You have to think the Isles have to be a good team sooner or later with all these prospects so the support will only be bigger.

If thats so. Then its very convenient for commuters who work in Manhattan. When I worked Down Town. (Wall St, Battery Park area) I took the LIRR out of Atlantic Ave Station back to LI everyday.

If it is close. Its a convenience. Especially for LI Commuters who work Down town.

i wouldnt quite say he was blaming sather for cherepanov dying, i think he was just saying that he (clearly) wont be turning into much as an NHLer...i bit tasteless for sure, personally i have a hard time blaming sather for drafting a guy who passed away unexpectedly but i guess his point was that draft pick clearly wont pan out....

Oh yeah, really? We didn't draft Moulson. Other than Hamonic you'd take Ulstrom over Stepan or Ness over MDZ? lmao, you're joking. Right? the rest are nothing yet. I knew you'd pull up Holik, Gomez, etc... Thats what you do, you take my point and twist it to make yours more releveant. Doesn't work, in fact it makes your point even less relevant. As I stated he made mistakes and learned from them. Your answer to that was he learned because the cap made him. Now you bring up trades or siginings that aren't relevant to my point or my post? Hey a great goalie(who was drafted by the Rangers BTW) and that great coach were hired by that "stupid" GM while our "genius" of a GM has Capuano and will probably try to have DP start his career over once again. I am not in the Sather fan club, just stating he's done an admirable job in the last five years or so. If you can't see that I don't know what to tell you.

Who hired these freaking guys???? Without Sather there would've been none of who you guys are mentioning, does anyone see the ridiculousness in this? lmao.

I believe he is. Would make sense wanting the first pick if Brooklyn is the place for the Isles. Maybe that's what Ek's source was thinking? The Rangers and Devils would hate the Isles in Brooklyn what better reason for the Isles to move to Brooklyn.

You're an idiot... I was talking about all their first round picks and he was in a sentence with all of the ones that never made it to NHL. If that is a sore point for you to hop on and call me a "d-face". I suggest u stop reading Islanders blogs searching for something to jump all over... you're in the conf finals. You still angry at the Islanders? Go on to the Ranger circle jerk blog instead.
