Good for them if they win, they built their team the right way. After doing things the wrong way Sather learned from his mistakes. You can't hate them for that, we can only hope for the same.

100% accurate .....Getting rid of Gomez for Mcdonagh..and someone else whose name escapes me, was a major building block to getting their rebuild done effectively. Tenacious defense, a willingness to block shots and take the body, a demanding coach...the goaltending.....the making of a cup contending team for many years to come ..unfortunately.

I dont doubt this one bit.. and it will be nice to see a 45 y/o franchise get its first cup!

For soem reason even though I would love that I dont see it happening. Not good for the NHL at all. They need Phoenix to win to show everyone the team belongs. So I think they will win it. Rangers get in just because they need an original team in so people watch. Nhl has an agenda

Just think the team will get actual press coverage in Brooklyn. The Daily News will write more than two words about them. Not that it's the fault of the press. When the owner does not care why should the press?

I Say put them on Montauk Point. The scenery itself will sell. Of course we would only get like a hundred people to the games but that would be like a 95% in attendance right there.

OR we can do what the Devils did and put them in the ghetto. Downtown Bellport or Wyandanch. The excitement of mayeb getting shot everytime you go to a game will intrigue enough people, Plus whoever makes it to the game alive gets in free. I should be the marketing rep for this team

Be carefull with the community sterotypes....... The newsday article mentioned the Brentwood Suffolk Community College campus???? I would prefer on the Rt.110 border is their any acreage near republic airport? Just saying.......

Demanding coach and willingness to the take the body with tenacious defense and goaltending. I wonder what's that like?

They basically had the Sallary cap help them... it forced them to stop trading away their prospects for old over paid veterans. They had to start playing them... They also have one of the best goalies in the league which makes any team look a lot better. Let's not go nuts on what a great job Sather has done. He still has about 10 mill ++ buried in the AHL.. He just happens to have an owner who is willing to spend.
- niteislander

I'm not going nuts. He buried Redden in the minors, I'll give you that. He also drafted MDZ and Stepan. Years that we drafted in the top five they have more to show for in the same years. You're fooling yourself if you think otherwise. Got rid of Gomez's contract and got an excellent young defenceman in return. Saying the salary cap helped them(by forcing them) in formulating their plan for success is kind of ridiculous. They have great depth from the young players they drafted and made trades and signed good role players/depth players. I'm an Islanders fan but give credit where credit is due. He has done an incredible job for some time now and his team shows it.

A couple more years of this regime and there will be nobody going to games. Even you Wangsters and Snow birds will come to your senses.

LOL I hate teh Wangster and The Abominal Snow man they are horrible. I am hoping for this. Wang cries a river and NAssau laughs in his face forcing to explore other options. Brooklyn comes by and says listen we will take this franchise off your hands no problem and take good care of them. Wang cuts his losses and laughs to the bank as Snow and Captain JAck sit there biting there nails. Then our new owner comes out of hiding fires Snow on the spot Jack gets the boot and the rest of his lame ass coaches and finalyl after years and years of suffering we get a real coach a real GM and start marching toward Lord Stanley. I know its a dream but that is all I have left with this team

In 2008 we drafted Bailey, Hamonic, Matt Moulson, Poulin, Ullstrom, Matt Donovan, Ness, Spurgeon, Dibo, Petrov, Toews, Niemi, and Trivino...
Rags drafted MDZ, Stepan, Grachev, Kundratek, Dale Weise, Doyle and Gaulton..
I will take our draft over theirs...

I have no idea how Gomez trade happened it was an unbelievable trade, but lets not forget Sather is the moron who gave him that contract.

The sallary cap forceing them to this "model" is not ridiculous.. it is a fact. Ask a Ranger fan. They will be the first one to tell you that... As far as their great players they got in their ranks... A Great goalie and a Great coach makes a lot of people look really smart. Sather is still an idiot.. the best thing he ever did for the Ranges was when he was Edmonton GM and traded them all the Oilers' players to get them their one cup.

Famous Sather contracts:
Redden ... I don't need to bother do I?
Gomez ... um.. wow
Bobby Holik.. 5 year 45 mill
Rozsival.. 20 mill 4 years
Kasper 5 years 25 mill
Drury 5 years 35 mill
Boogard ... rip. 2 mill a year 4 years..

other Sather moves: Jessiman great pick instead of Getzlaf, Parise, Mike Richards.
How about theother first round picks Cherepanov, Sanguinetti, Montoya etc. etc.

you want to hang your hat on Stepan.. go ahead. He is not exactly a 40 goal scorer.

The NHL should have blocked the Gomez trade. That was brutal. Even
Wang would not have made it. I give most of the credit to the coach and goalie.

More like Gordie Clark, Torts and Slats all working together and getting it done.

Gordie helps amazingly with the draft, Torts suggests the types of players that he needs to win and Slats actually listening to the people around him and pulling the trigger on what needs to be done.

I truly believe Torts and Clark don't get nearly enough credit for what the rangers organization have become

I agree. Torts was huge. Sather has done way more bad than good. Still rather have Sather than Snow. Sather does deserve credit for bringing in Torts.

There is not clock ticking. Its done. The clock struck midnight on the Isles staying in Nassau. They're as good as gone come 2015. The only question is where will the team wind up?

The politicans are not going to be able to pass legislation to build a publically funded arena. Even if they did, they won't get past NIFA to get the bill funded. Nobody is going to step up and demo the Coli on their own dime, build the county a new arena on their own dime and let the county own the building after its built by an investor's dollars. That makes absolutely no financial sense for a private investor. Nobody is going to buy the Coli land to privately develop with all the red tape hanging over it in the form of the TOH's zoning restrictions.

And can we get off the idea of moving this team further east? Suffolk would be a death sentence for this team from a financial standpoint. Major sports franchises are not placed in the suburbs for a reason. If this team is to compete with the rest of the NHL from a revenue standpoint, they need to be closer to NYC and mass transit and corporate sponsorship, not further away. I know that the Suffolk fans would be incovenenienced by a move west, but its not as if the place has been jam-packed with the team playing in Nassau.

Nothing is better than this series... We need the Rags to lose! Yes I will admit they have assembled a nice team, and are playing good hockey, but nothing will get any worse for this franchise if the Rags win the cup. We as fans have received enough punishment.
- ECHockey20

I could care less who wins. The Isles are out of the playoff for the fifth straight year. I'd prefer if the Rangers lost, but truthfully, I don't have the energy to root against them. I just don't care.
