Take bryz. Get D to make him look like a superstar. I.e Mike Smith. He's better then what you have now, especially when goalies are hard to find. Stop worrying about offense, work on D. - Deadmau55
The Leafs could really bring out the best in Bryz... |

To answer your questions from an Oilers perspective:
1. What would you give up for Jordan Staal?
If the Penguins re-sign Staal to a long-term deal before moving him, I'm offering up Gagner and Magnus Paajarvi. I'm not giving up the 1st overall pick (Nail Yakupov) for him.
2. What do you want for Staal?
If I'm the Penguins, and assuming Staal won't sign a contract extension for me, what I want for Staal is ideally a Top 10 draft pick and a 2nd asset. The Pens are hella deep with D prospects, so maybe I'm looking for a replacement 3rd line center.
3. Is he a legit #1?
Hard to say, as he's played his career focusing more on being a success as a two-way guy. In the #1 center role, I'm not sure he has as much offensive upside as some seem to think. He can be a 30 goal, 60pts center, which is average points-wise.
4. How much would you pay for Staal?
I assume you're referring to contract? If the Oilers could sign him next season as a UFA, and if the Oil would be signing him because they need a 2nd line center with size to back up Nuge in the #1 role, I'd be offering five years, $5mil per. He wouldn't sign with Edmonton though, as there are plenty of dumb GM's out there who would overpay and offer more than that. - Maxbone
Oh right last place teams are always the first to snag the big UFA's
Unless the Oilers are willing to part with the #1 or any of their 3 stars they would not get Staal..... |

If he is saying a mid-pick, that is equal to a tier 3 prospect. So, its Staal for Patches straight up. I wouldn't do that.

Murray is the best, or the safest pick? - Oneonta Penguin
Maybe it's reading into something that isn't there at this point, but when discussing Murray and his current standing on the Central Scouting rankings (he's second) Lowe called him the top player.
“He's played remarkably well for a young fellow and I've talked to the other GMs and scouts that are here [at the World Championships] and they all agree that he's going to play in the National Hockey League next year, no question," Lowe said.
”There's no surprise why Central Scouting has him rated second. He's the top player. And often with the top players, or occasionally with the top players, they're not ready to play in the National Hockey League, but I don't question his readiness for next year.

I would have to think about it, but I'd rather have the prospect than the 3rd or 4th rounder. |

Staal is not currently better than any teams number 1 center. He is an average number 2 player with his numbers. Playing on Pittsburg with Crosby out this year he didn't have huge points. I don't think I would trade Horcoff for him and Horcoff played 3rd line minutes on the 29th finishing team but had similiar numbers. He will be a career 50 pt player and that is worth 3 mill a year and a 3/4 dman if a team is looking do dump salary. Maybe a second round pick. He had potential but you have to call a spade a spade, he hasn't improved over the years. |

The only problem i have with your deal is the salary coming back. That would be 6.5 mil going out and 10.2 mil coming back. |
