Just making it into the playoffs should not be the GM;s attempts. The goal should be to build a contender, and I do not think Bryz is that goalie. Look at the system he had in Phoenix. Tippet was a defense first coach, and he was not good in the playoffs. - acresd
Getting to the playoffs would be a huge step for the leafs, and bryz has proven he can get a team with a not much of a Defense to the post season. |

I agree. Sometimes teams just dont match up well. - Gunner Staal
Unless Buffalo offers both McNabb and Pysyk, and even then you need guys that are more NHL ready. |

True getting into the playoffs would be a big thing for the Leafs. But still....just getting into the playoffs, should not be the game plan. |

To Pittsburgh: Thomas Kaberle - Gunner Staal
Kaberle won't waive his NTC for imaginary trades either. |

Right on cue ... so basically, the first in 2013 and either failed prospects or players who have regressed.
There isn't a match for Toronto to get him. - Oneonta Penguin
would pens take Gardiner-Kadri for staal?
or if they are looking for more of a defensive d man schenn and our 1st (5th overall) for staal? |

Gardiner would interest me as a Pens fan. Kadri? LOL.
You guys bring up Kadri for every deal. You must either seriously overrate him or really want to get rid of him because you think he is going to be a bomb. |

No, he wouldn't.
And I fully admit that we have nothing right now.
I don't know if you watched the Flyers-Penguins series, but Bryz is not the answer at $5.667 cap hit.
No thank you. |

I expect a package more than crap on crap on crap ... failed Toronto prospect on regressed Toronto player. He was on pace for a 30-goal season if not for him missing 20 games. His offensive skills are coming. Remember, how old is he? - Oneonta Penguin
Like I said, I think he's a good player, but it's funny that you mention the "failed prospect" when he is only 21 yrs old. And the "regressed" player who is only 24 yrs old, yet Staal has plenty of room for growth because he is only 23 yrs old? Oh, and about that 30 goal season he was on pace for, Kulemin has already done that.

He helped the flyers get to the second round of the playoffs. With little to no help from the D. Leafs goalies haven't done that. I'm not knocking you, I just don't see how he's not an upgrade. |

Toronto is not a good team and had various openings on the third line for Kadri to snag. He couldn't. He isn't going to be a good player. Kulemin went from 30 goals to 28 points within one year. I would say that is a major drop off.
Staal is one of the best two-way forwards in the game and is young too boot. If he gets traded, the Pens need a good return because the goal is still to compete for a Cup. Kadri and Kulemin DON'T do that for Pittsburgh. It detracts from their chances. I don't think either is good enough. Alot of people question Kadri. The only ones that don't are Toronto fans.
Staal is more proven than those two combined. You know what you have in Staal. You certainly don't in those two. |

Yeah trade Crosby when you can afford him because another player had a good season. Did you listen to yourself before you wrote this? I am not willing to part with Staal for spare parts. I'd prefer to keep him and take my chances of signing him. The kid plays a shutdown role and may have eclipsed 40 goals and 80 points this year had he played a full season. Not to mention he is like 6"5 200 and something pounds and only 23 years old. - dbell646
No way you take your chances with that kind of asset. No way I let him step foot on the ice without a deal.....either sign him or move him. Somebody will offer him a boat load as a FA and they'll lose him for nothing. If it's true that he wants more of an offensive role, I think we've seen the last of him in a Pittsburgh jersey. |

He is not an upgrade, cause the price, and length, plus Reimer has had a total of 1 complete season under his belt. I would say look somewhere else. |

Just to clarify. Not all Troronto fans do that.....there are a lot of people that believe he has had his chances, and has not stolen anything yet. Verdict is still out on him.....But I do not see him as a top 6 forward. |

That contract is an insane. Leafs should look at aquiring Timmy thomas for the next 2-3 years while Reimer and scrivens develope properly. With average goaltending this past season the Leafs would have made the dance

Gardiner for Lou is certainly wishful thinking considering how important Gardiner is to TO's future, but Edler is an excellent young defender, who's career high in points is only 6 lower than Staal, as a defender.
It might not be a perfect fit for either team's needs, or a straight one for one swap, but if you think Edler for Staal is comical, you haven't seen Edler play, or you're trying to troll.
That being said, I'd rather keep Edler anyway. Canucks have an excellent defensive centre in Kesler. |
