For all you people saying that Pittsburg should trade Crosby........

Please put down the crack pipes.

Staal is better than at least 5 teams' #1 center. Toronto, Columbus, Calgary, Florida and Montreal. He's arguably better than any center on two teams currently still in the playoffs: New Jersey and Phoenix.

I'd much rather have Jokinen than Staal. Even id he leaves Cammi can fill in the number 1 center role and I'd still rather have that than J Staal.

The problems is that either this yr or next yr they will have to move one of their 3 centers. Staal and Crosby will be UFA's at the end of the yr and Malkin the following yr. Staal will get a min 5 mil from the Pens, probaly 6 with a longer deal somewhere else. There is no way the Pens can fit all 3 under the cap and upgrade the D, and Staal will not want to forever be a 3rd line center. Malkin can't play on the wing, he just kinda plays everywhere. They try Malkin and Crosby on teh same line once or twice a game and on the PP and it never works, its just a mess. Malkin is 100xs better without Crosby. Move Malkin.

PR nightmare to trade Malkin. Big trades like that rarely work out for the team losing the best player. The most logical thing, as has been mentioned a few times, is to move Staal/Malkin/Crosby all into top 6 roles, and leave them there. None of this rotating Staal back with Cooke and Kennedy a few times per game. He's ready for a #2C position, and as far as what a team looks for from that position he fits the bill exactly. In my opinion Malkin is the best bet at the wing, probably with Crosby+Neal (SICK LINE!). Kunitz + Staal + Duper/Tangradi/FA is decent at #2. Anyways, the lines themselves are less important as moving Staal permanently to a top 6 role.

They really only need a few tweaks in my opinion:
1) A #3C with grit, speed and face-off skills. Doesn't have to be a high skill guy...somebody who gets the job done consistently and who opposing teams hate to play against. ie Gausted, Halpern.
2) 1-2 tough as nails D who can move around reasonably well, for example Doug Murray, Barrett Jackman.
3) While I actually like Paul Martin, even with his bad season, his salary is a bit high and he'll need to be moved out.

If possible (very difficult!)
4) One more top 6 winger with toughness, like Dustin Brown or Milan Lucic (not that these guys will be traded, but these types of players). One possibility would be Evander Kane, if he indeed wants out, and if the Jets would want prospects and picks in return...its possible Tangradi could still be sorta this guy...

Bold number one: Moving Geno wouldnt be that bad in a city like pittsburgh. If you can manage to get a defensive beast like Weber out of the deal somehow then it would go over great. Pittsburgh loves defence!

Bold number two: Sid, Geno, Neal...TERRIBLE IDEA!! For sooo many reasons this is bad. Malkin cannot play wing. Why place all top three point producers on one line. Great recipe to fail come playoff time. I do not even want Neal on the number 1 PP. You have to have players in roles that best suit them to flourish.

Bold number three: This ties in well with trading Malkin. A throw in of Martin to the team your shipping Malkin to will free up that much more cap space and maybe we could bring both Suter and Weber in? Imagine that for a little more balance in Pittsburgh!

I dont know if this has been brought up but what about a deal of Staal for Bobby Ryan. This would get sid a top winger who is young as well. Wondering what everyone thinks.

Staal isn't a nuber one, but a great #2 with selke potential. Would require at least a quality #3 center and a number 2 or 3 defenseman.

He's a fan of Edmonton. He thinks Hemsky has value of a first rounder and Omark has third round value and Gagner should be traded for a major piece. He has a very low hockey IQ.

FWIW I don't think that's what they mean by a 'hockey IQ'

Gotta love hockey rumours...Toronto is ALWAYS interested...to easy EK...to easy. I have heard from a source (Bryan Murray) taht the SENS are in for Staal. Apparently they are looking to add a top 6 forward.

isles need to trade for him. dont have any defenseman that the pens would want but plenty of prospects although i doubt that the penguins would be looking for that right now, even though they are top rated prospects. this is that "young veteran" they need to help progress their obvious talent.
