I dont think Gagner gets you Staal by any means, but theres lots of factors to consider like you have already mentioned... contracts and whatnot.

Apparently he demolished everyone else on all the fitness testing. His stats production was terrible this year but everyone who has watched him the last two years still loves him. Also I think plus/minus is not always a meaningful stat, but his being a plus on this year's Leaf team has some meaning.

Watching him play, I think his bad stats in a contract year just mean he'll be a bargain player next year.

Also to the fans of other teams explaining why it's a natural for the Leafs to acquire Luongo or Bryz and for other teams to acquire Gardiner and/or a first from the Leafs, go buy a Leafs jersey because you've already got the delusional Leaf trade ideas, you may as well join us.

And I'd never do your utterly ridiculous ideas - Staal for PVR and Gagner or Gagner and a second? Maybe you should give your head a shake. That is a fair deal.People think you have to trade the farm,but is a 1 year deal. It is rumoured he want to play with his brother in Carolina so what ever you send to Pitt ,Staal will probably not be re-signing with the same team next year.

You seriously think that is fair value for Staal? Gagner had 2 good games in his career. Shero would hang up immediately. I think the Pens are the only team that has a shot at him for 5 per.

You guys really over value Stahl while belittling any player mentioned in a trade.

As an Oiler fan I wouldn't make that trade. Stahl has very little offensive upside and frankly he offers a lot penalty killing and defensively but isn't the type of player a smart GM overplays to aquire.
