i admit that bryz rubs me the wrong way at times.. and probly always will.. but i also understand that alot of the hate surrounding him is uninformed and overblown - Crimsoninja
also think that because some of the criticism he faces is unfair, some fans think any criticism of him is stupid and unwarranted.

He could be a total Richard, but if he gets us a cup I won't care.
Every D group has had its problems. But from 1-6, I'd still take this D over most teams'.
Coburn looked very comfortable and played at a high level once paired with Grossmann. I'd like to believe his play will finally evolve to where we all hoped it would be.
Timo will be playing less minutes. More gas in the tank at the end of the year.
With Metz, Carle, and either MAB, Gus, perhaps Manning. or even a trade/FA coming in, this group would round out nicely. - 77rams
Sometimes I think the forwards get blamed a little too much but that's my opinion bc I watch the defense turn the puck over a ton verse NJ. Their passing wasn't very good. I hope I'm wrong and they can play well. Need to add a threat from the point IMO.

I can accept and understand that. Hell there's times I get aggrivated by his musings.
At the same time, I see what he's saying, and I know the track record of the Philly media-and not just the current crop on the Flyers beat. I mean, this is a town that had Steve Carlton go on strike for 15 years because they shredded him as a person, not just as a pitcher. - Jsaquella
i thought the interview was good in terms of him getting things off his chest.. but still taking responsibilty for this year and the remaining years on his deal.
also, i do think he was calling out some of the moron "fans" in addition to just the media. which i also liked.

When you win, that flaky demeanor works. When you're not, you're looked at as unfocused.
Why are we so quick to dismiss kubina? Does he have a career threatening injury? As long as he can come back healthy I think he can fit in. He played very well for the flyers before the injury. As long as his injury doesn't prevent him from playing at that level id like to have him on a one year deal
ok but i think you need to take back the McNabb comparison - Crimsoninja
maybe I'm wrong, but that's who I thought of reading his comments. To me Bryz basically says no excuses, and then works in a bunch of excuses. Rooting for the guy to succeed, but his comments bug me.

No, he deserves criticism for his play this past season. Absolutely. He didn't play up to expectations.
How many articles criticizing him for his play used his personality as part of the criticism? How many times did we get to read about him being a space cadet or being lost in the woods?
The guy came to town, was as open and honest as an athlete's ever been here, and the press killed him with it. Not content to leave it with his on ice performance, they shredded him for what he said, and then for when he decided not to talk anymore.
When you have numerous players, over the space of several years, that have issue after issue with the local media, when do you start blaming the media for it?

the default in Philly when something goes wrong is blame the fans. Hell even Rollins did it last year. - ukeman
I don't care who they blame. I like watching the games, not the reality tv sideshows where media drums up controversial topics because the game isnt satisfying enough anymore. If 2-3 years from how Bryz is awful and blaming the fans, I'll be annoyed, but him venting after a playoff run and whirlwind first season doesn't bother me at all.

I agree with you. He was including some of the idiot fans in his comments, but it was mainly aimed at the media. He didn't deny responsibility and I don't think he made excuses for his play. He said, as he did numerous times during the season, that he had to play better.

I'm all for depth, but by my count, the Flyers already have 10 top-9 forwards heading into next season -- minus Jagr. That's also not taking into consideration any other kids that might stop up this year, a la Read and Couturier.
There is an opening for a solid 4th line center who can kill penalties and win face-offs. But that's a luxury at this point, not a need.
I'd be focusing on a blue line upgrade/addition of some kind. Without Pronger, there's only five NHL defenseman who I feel comfortable rolling out in the playoffs (Lilja would be #6, but my comfort level with him is not high). Gustafsson and Bourdon may take additional strides in their development, but that's no slam dunk, because their ceilings were never all that high to begin with.
I'd like to re-sign Carle, and another NHL defenseman and call it a day. - bradleyc4
I'm with you. I think that would set up the team nicely. Although I would like that 4th line Center also.

Not defending the media here, they like to look for that kind if stuff. My point is that I'm not sure how much of it is honesty and how much is Bryzs act. Kind of like Pronger plays with the media only Chris is much better at it.
Maybe I'm too cynical, but I think it's part of his act and he likes that it is in the headlines.

I have no idea what his injury was, it would help to know that.
I think he played OK before the injury. Would have liked to see him play a few more games, it was a very short window.

It would be have to be since he's (I believe) 35. But he's been slowing down considerably for the last couple of years now. Age and injuries would worry me.

Do you really think he wants to give a stadium full of people ammo to boo and rip him with everytime he has a puck go past him next year?

That's cool, but I do. Don't like it when players crap on the fans that give them the great lifestyle they have. Sometimes I think they forget how lucky they are.
