I wouldn't do it if I was MTL.

Kane's good...but they've got the 3rd overall and they're not a team that's on the cusp of being dangerous with out without Kane.

If they can make that deal without using the 3rd overall or Price; then I'd say go for it.

What about Subban or Pacs.

If I am Winnipeg, I look for one of those two, and I look for something similar if anyone else comes knocking.

Kane is on the verge of being a major power forward in this game. They would be stupid to give him away for less.

So when they show the replays, the Tampa goalies really will be letting in something the size of a beachball?

Lmao, you wouldnt be able to get anyone for that deal let alone a good player
- Meeqsb

I'm pretty sure that's what I said... I know that package won't fetch Kane. That said, Gionta's numbers have compared to him. I know Gionta is on his downturn, and is small, and that's why he needs to leave the Habs. But for a team looking for leadership and 50-60 points a year on your 2nd line, he's alright.

In the meanwhile, I would hate to see the Habs over-pay for Kane. We actually have 2 guys who outscored him this year that no one would say is good enough to get him.

I prefer Patches over Kane. Subban I would entertain.

What do you mean, it seems fair when you break it down? Gionta is the captain on a sweet deal.... well, not that sweet but he's produced to the level that the money he is paid is. Not really, but he provides that top 6 size that the jets would want anyways so thats a bonus. Leadership? Durability? He offers something doesn't he? Well, thats why Weber is tossed in there. You get a top 4 D, or top 6 D just being conservative.... okay so a a fringe D with offensive upside and.... hmm, k so maybe he isn't much of an addition but that second is one of the top picks in the round. When you break it down, the deal almost makes itself.

Thanks... depending on their chances of re-signing Kane, they could do worse than this deal.

So... Why the hell would the Jets trade Kane? It'd be great for the Habs if they could get him but what would they have to give up?

Interesting.

I am not a Habs fan, but I would have a tough time if I had to decide one or the other between Subban and Pacs.

Based on last year, I would tend to agree with you. I just have this feeling that Paccioretty is close to where he will peak. (not that that is a bad thing). Subban, on the other hand has some learning and maturing to go and hopefully as he grows up he keeps improving.

I think Subban has the greater upside.

I am not sure I would trade either though... but if I am Winnipeg, that would be the price I think.

I don't like the deal, but I agree with you, they could do worse, and will likely be offered worse.

Exactly. Patches was arguably our best player this year, leading the team in points after a serious injury. Now he also leads the World Championships in scoring with 7 points in 4 games. Makes no sense to swap him for Kane.

I would listen to offers for Subban as well

Gal should be there at the 5th pick. He just missed an ENTIRE year of junior hockey, you really think a team is going to pick him top 4?

Yakupov, Murray, Forsberg and Griggs will be top 4. Not specifically in that order.

- Sabreshark

I disagree. Everything I've seen has a drop-off in talent after Yak, Grigorenko, and Gally. His knee is fine. I want Galchenyuk for the Isles at 4, and I don't think he's going to make it.

Pacioretty's already a better power forward than Kane, there's no point in making a trade like that.. It'd have to be Subban, i guess.

He's already better than him because he's 3 years older.

It will cost Montreal 3 first round picks if they offer sheet Kane. But I still think Winnipeg matches.

If Kane is available, several teams have a lot more depth and could offer up a far superior package than Montreal. I have no idea what Montreal could offer up that would be of any interest to Winnipeg.

MTL is rebuilding, they won't do offer sheet, they are too far away and need to draft high for a few years. This rumour from EK makes no sense, it's just a bait for hits....as usual.

I don't see what the point of trading Patches and Kane would be. They're almost identical players, Kane is a couple years younger but they'd just be slotting into where the other one was on the team. Seems pointless if you ask me.

Not to mention I don't see why they'd go after Kane at all. It's not that I don't like Kane as a player, but there are much bigger holes to big fixing on the team, wingers are the only thing that looks half decent.

I just don't see him making it to us. I would imagine all of EDM, CBJ, and you guys are going to take forwards unless someone has a serious boner for Murray. We need D but you draft skill over need, so if Galchenyuk falls to us I can't see Snow passing.

Never said it did. I just think its an odd statement to say someone is already better than someone else when he is 3 years older. It'd make an actual argument if the opposite were true.

For the record, I wouldn't deal any of the three names being bantered about. Subban, Pacioretty or Price. I'd also keep Gorges because I like him. I'd suggest thats the core and build around them.
