Read is making under $1mm. It would be stupid to trade him right now, just for cap reasons

My biggest fear in moving JvR is having him turn into John LeClair
- Jsaquella

Thats a possibility but the player coming back has a chance to be very successful as well.

I don't pay attention to any of what the Philly media writes, so if Bryzgalov was attacked personally, I wouldn't have a clue about it. It truly amazes me that people give a rats ass what these people write, who gives a flying (frank). The fact the players are even cognizant about what the media is writing or letting these clowns effect their performance is insanity. People in every day life put up with a ton more poop than these athletes deal with and for franctions less than what these guys earn in a week.
- PLindbergh31

i think that's an unrealistic view of the modern pro sports landscape. there are so many channels for commentary it would be nearly impossible to avoid even some small amount of it.

what i would love is for the writers and analysts - the non-former players - to live a season in the shoes of those they "cover". it might change their perspective a bit.

Trading JvR for the 8th and whatever other pick doesn't address immediate needs. It's unlikely to count on a 2012 draftee stepping right in and playing a huge role.

I don't think Suter is overrated, but he's going to be overpaid, because the UFA market for defensemen is weak. He's the top of it, followed by Carle, Wideman and Oduya. I'd much rather pay Matt Carle $5mm than Ryan Suter the $7mm or so that he's likely to get.

Now, if Chicago was interested in a JvR headed package for Brent Seabrook or if Phoenix would take JvR++ for a guy like Yandle or OEL, then I'd be listening.

I don't see why not. I'm waiting for the posts that suggest threatening Briere that if he doesn't accept a trade, they'll lock him a closet and not play him.

I'm open to wacky and wild, I just want to see the thought process behind it.

Like my dropping of Seabrook or Keith's name. There have been things reported by a well known national media personality, and either one would be a great and logical addition to the Flyers roster, without creating a roster roadblock for a developing top prospect.

Signing a Parise, which would b a sexy move-and not necessarily a bad one-would result in forcing other moves to be made. I'm not seeing the logical thought process, other than Zach Parise is one hell of a player.

I think you may be right. It's a big year for jVr next year.

i really believe it's make or break for him with the flyers. there will be suitors for his services if they shop him.

Good point. Like that is relevant to covering the team. That's what I'm talking about. Creating something out of nothing. It's not enough to just write about Hockey.
- MJL

that's what they do. about every little gddamn irrelevant thing. it's like they're (frank)ing robots.

my dream off season for the flyers:
timonen retires (he's still good, but not for his cap hit)
pronger is amnesty bought out and retires
jvr is traded for the 8th and 38th picks
matt read is traded for a 4/5 dman
flyers sign zach parise and ryan suter
trade bob for backup and 3rd round pick
lines look like this:

parise-giroux-hartnell
voracek-briere-simmonds
schenn-coots-talbot
wellwood-cousins-rinaldo
suter-meszaros
coburn-grossman
carle-dman from read trade or bourdon or lilja

the player i want from the 1st rounder from jvr trade is jacob trouba.

I read an article today that pointed to Parise resigning with the Devils now that they made it to the ECF. He really wants to play with a team that can contend. His agent said this has had an impact on him possibly wanted to stay.

The ideas in and of themselves are not necessarily bad, but I think that right now, staying the course is a better road to take.

Say there's a healthy JvR, running all year with Giroux and Voracek, and he scores 40 goals. Better to pay him $4.25mm than Parise $7.5mm for 45 goals. Granted it's real possible that JvR doesn't score 40, but there are signs that JvR can break out.

leclair was never projected to be leclair. jvr is, so to speak, and there's got to be a window for him that closes at some point.

The key for Parise is the Devils financial situation. Apparently, they are in some hot water and might not be able to afford the salary.

No, he wasn't. But the same knocks that JvR has levied against him are the same that LeClair faced at age 22.

Now, if we're shutting a window, it had better be long after age 22.

I don't know their financial situation but I don't think its a lock that Parise hits the open market, thats just my guess of course.
