Rumor has it the Sabres will offer Carle a 8 year, $7.5m per contract. Sabres are known to be value players so this should shock nobody. - Daman

I hear you. But that's still a few years off before the Flyers need to worry about it. - bmeltzer
Hey Bill. Look at my avatar... It's blue man. Cause I'm sad And it's all Briere's fault.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

First of all, thank you.
I don't think you can say if the club adds one particular player or two guys, they'll have enough to go all the way. I think they need to improve a bit in terms of team defense (and that means forwards as well as defensemen and goalies). I'd like to see a Dman who is more of a power play threat added. I'd like to see a bit more grit and size up front in certain spots.
All in all, though, I think it's a matter of playing the right way at the right time. If the Flyers had played NJ like they played the Penguins in Game 6, I think we'd be talking about the Flyers in the EC Finals now. Instead, the Devils were the team that found that sort of plateau and stayed there. - bmeltzer

So you would rather have the NHL's top playoff goal scorer over the last seven years on the other side because he has some defensive matchup issues?
Sorry, but I vehemently disagree. I wouldn't want a whole roster full of such players, but in a playoff series, I want Briere on my side every time. - bmeltzer
You need each part of the team to have different strengths and weaknesses. Too much of one kind of guy, too little of another, your team in unbalanced and disfunctional.

Well, since it isn't his job to cover five guys by himself, I wouldn't call it a fair comparison. Not saying Briere doesn't have issues against bigger forwards defensively or fail to pick up some trailers. He does. But when you weigh all considerations, I want him on my side in a big game. - bmeltzer

And if you think $6.5 is crosby or stamkos numbers (and you do realize neither has been a UFA yet) you should visit Cap Central for a little reality check.

THIS is true. I dabble in the Briere talk because I find it intriguing. I think it's great we have him but could survive without him that's all. I don't hate him or try to make fun of him and I doubt I've ever jumped on here when he's having a bad game to make snarky remarks about him. I just don't like the cap hit he commands but like I said in previous post I'm willing to grin and bear it.

agreed. Nintendo ice hockey illustrated that you could not have five little thin dudes or five big dudes. It's about balance. (sorry for the gaming reference)

For too long, the Flyers had all big dudes. It didn't work. Homer is much better at the mixing of various dude features.

What's your definition of surviving? Did we survive without Pronger?

Ok, I was only trying to have fun with the whole Tina Fey thing.
I personally know nothing about her other then what she looks like.
The attempted "joke" about Sloth was weak and in my better judgement, I shouldn't have even gone down that road.

Ya wanna know how I got these scars
I still think the queen of SNL would make a great Ice girl for my favorite Ice hockey team (at least it's remotely hockey related)
I think we are better off bringing back Carle, especially if indications are true that they can get him under market value. Tocchet was talking yesterday about the Flyers going after Weber Next year. Me personally I'd rather bring back Carle on the cheap and roll the dice we can get Shea Weber next year than go all in on Suter and be choked next year. One more year without a Pronger ain't gonna hurt people. Besides the rest of this team will have another year to gel and who knows what guy is gonna want out of what city next year, bet LA is pretty Happy Carter fell into their lap at the deadline.
Here's a little sample roster I put together. With plenty of room to sign another Forward or Defenseman.

I agree.
Kimmo comes off the books next year so the Flyers could roll his salary into what Weber will cost.
Yes, I do understand that Weber will command more then Kimmo is paid.
My point is to say, the Flyers will only need to find a Million + to sign him versus the full 7m +
