Bill, his role only diminished in the last series when he was ostensibly injured. He can't be pissed about that can he? Otherwise, he was on the top line and saw second PP minutes. Is that where he wanted more? If that's the deciding factor in whether he wants to play for the Flyers again, I'm okay with him not re-signing.

He's got high demands, but at least he's keeping it to a hockey decision. I'm split on him. Half of me thinks he can come back even better after adjusting to the NHL and learning more about what his body can handle. The other half says it will wear him down even more next year. Not sure what I'd do.

I believe she was bitten by a dog as a young child.

Are there suspensions on here for simply being an ah0le?

At least with of Jagr is out of the way next year, we can get Shelley out there on a more regular basis.

if he thinks he has a better shot elsewhere I understand, but in my view, seems like he was given a very prominent role on the team.

I think he was always given first dibs on pp unit and on the 1st line. Seemed like only when he was injured or of his game that he was moved. Not sure what the issue is there?

Going forward, I gotta think it is pertinent on the players that he mentored this year to take what they learned from him and carry that with them going forward. I mean at some point Giroux and JVR who have been through some wars already here, have to become big-boys, eat their vegetables, take their vitamins and say their prayers. I liked Jagr but honestly I think this game has passed him by. If there isn't any other available free agents that can fill the needs this team has I'd rather use it on them. Otherwise yes bring him back, but it's gotta be for Jodey Shelley money because really going forward I don't feel with his age he'll be much more than a role player.

I have a feeling Shelley may not play many games for the Flyers.

He was quite good against Penguins -- points in 5 of the 6 games, and his best game of series may have been the clincher where he didn't get a point.

He struggled mightily against Devils, along with pretty much every Flyers winger on the top three lines.

And, yes, a host of teams see how much leadership he brought along with 50+ plus points and would want him, which means there will be teams that offer him $4 million and up.

He said it won't be a money decision -- it will be a role on team decision (i.e., back on first PP unit, etc).

Its not Jagr's fault on the following:

1) He's old
2) He's hurt
3) He's on the first line

He really belongs on a second line. I'll be chastized here, but I think a faster sniper would beneift Giroux.

That being said Jagr had a good regular season. My initial comments on this post were that I would keep the team intact other than Carle and Voracek for $$$ reasons. Also, Briere is a killer to this team as it relates to $$.

Danny talked at length after the PC today about how much he loves living in Philly and plans for it to be his permanent home. Mentioned that his oldest son is starting HS and his kids view Philly as their home. Also said how much he simply likes the lifestyle, weather and location here.

To me it depends on how the clause is written. If your allowed 1 buyout, penality free over the course of the next CBA, then you wait to use it when you need it, for example if Weber becomes UFA next year and you need to cut cap bad to sign him.

If the cluase only allows a buyout before the current season, then there are 3 players you have to consider.
1. Pronger. But because he is on LTIR it does not effect in season cap, just the off-season cap.
2. Bryzgalov. If you don't think he will be what your paying him to be, right now might be your only chance to get out of it. But then who are you going to get to be your Number 1 next year? So this is unlikely either.
3. Briere. This is the most logical choice for me. He is the highest paid player on the team, and just doesnt show up during the regular season, and his defensive liability hurts the team as much as his scoring helps the team in the playoffs. Besides Briere is not as effective on the wing, and we currently have 6 guys not including him on this team that can play center, not to mention players like Cousins and Brown that deserve a shot next year. And finally, Briere's last contract year is during a year that we will need to resign Giroux, Schenn, Couturier, Read, and Meszaros... not including anyone else that signs between now and then... If these guys continue to progess, this could be very expensive, and having Briere at 6.5 million and a NMC could prevent you from signing 1-2 of these guys....

- RooNosHockey

What about Briere's 34 goals and 31 assists during the 10/11 regular Season?

I was puzzled about the weather part until I recalled that he played in Buffalo!

I like Briere, but the subject always changes. The cap hit on Briere is crippling. $6.5 is Crosby or Stamkos like #s.

Briere can score in the playoffs and as you mentioned, the regular season. But there are weaknesses to his game, and is not dominant on the ice. He maximizes his God given talents, and I like him as a player and a person. But in a salary cap world I am shocked we are having a debate.

For all the great things Briere does in the postseason....there's Game 2 NJ series Briere. That just can't happen when your one of the leaders on a young team like this.
