Well, this IS Toronto. Center of the hockey universe. OUR GMS MUST REBUILD CRAPPY TEAMS IN UNDER 5 YEARS!! That's the only way that is acceptable...

And at the time he was applauded. The shenanigans drafting Kadri, the truculence...all of it was eaten up. Now its moving into year 5 whether he was interested or not. The honeymoon is almost over.

I interpretted this as:

"I am not interested in finishing last place for 5 years.. I am going to restock the team while trying to keep them competative the entire time. I am not interested in tradng away ll my vets, filling the team with rookies, and have them come in dead last 5 years in a row until we have a successfult eam"

Who cares what BB said. This is also the man who said he would "FLAT OUT LIE" if it would help him make his team better. Ya, he's said he's not patient. BUT, has he sacrificed the future of our team?

I don't think so. This is my opinion, but I believe it fully. I think things are going in the right direction, after years of no plan, no structure, no drafting... Buying players and hoping for the best, I know what it's like as a Leafs fan to be proud of some up and coming talent. Is there still work to do? Damn straight.

My guess is tho, if Reimer (Who most people have written off after this year) bounces back to form next year and the Leafs make the playoffs, people will chnage their stories to suit the situation.

Mark it down, I believe in what BB is doing, I believe it will get the Leafs back to competing year after year, with some of our own developed talent! Not over the hill free agents... I don't know if we'll see a cup under BB and I'm not going to make any silly predictions, because we all know my words (Just as Burke's) may be taken as gospel going forward...

I think Burke bit off way more than he could chew and his own arrogance is catching up now.

Will you be saying this again if the Leafs miss next year and Burke goes on how he could have made the playoffs but didnt want to mess things up?

He's full of it.

At the trade deadline he says he believes this group can make the playoffs, doesnt want to make any move.

Then they miss horribly, and he says he could have made it but didnt want to get killed in the 1st round.

I guess it doesnt really matter what he says..... but dont you think a man in his position should be accountable for what he says on the record?

The year he starts trading away our prospects is the year I will believe that he thinks we have enough depth in the system to warrant trading for help now.

If he doesnt trade away prospects next year, then I will beleive he feels we are not close enough to compete, and I will fully support him not tradign the farm to make the playoffs for 1 year.

If he goes out this year and makes a trade for say, Nash, which involves guys like Kadri, or Shcenn, etc... then I will believe he thinks we should make the playoffs, and will judge him harshly should we miss.

That seem fair?

I think his actions should be what we judge him by. Not what he "Says"... No he didn't make a move at the deadline to make the team better, you're right...

You know what else he didn't do at the deadline? He didn't trade draft picks or prospects in a panic...

Vesa Toskala? Raycroft? Owen Nolan?

Those deals, those types of deals have been what has set this organization as far back as it is. I wish I was talking playoffs and Leafs right now, but I'm not. But I'm damn happy I'm not talking about deals Burke made that would have given us a playoffs orgasm this year and set us back another two years...

Next year is next year, at this moment in time, this is how I feel. But I've said it before. IMO BB should get the term he was offered and signed for....
