Is there a proper way to respond to your question so that I don't suffer media scruttiny in the future?

Imo, the only "bigger" thing that Burke needs to address is the goaltending "sitch". We could afford to, imo, go without a star centerman or another star top6 guy for another little while, but we really need an experienced goalie who can step in for the number one spot right away and help mentor/develop our younger goalies.

Aside from that, we merely need some better grit and character guys on this team, cause we really missed that last year/two.

He should have projected lower expectations with such a passionate fishbowl fanbase and idiotic bottomfeeding media
- JIMI-JAMES

Who gives a poop what he projects to the media?

Why do people make such a big deal of what he says to them, its what he does that matters.

You can tell his train of thought from the start.

He figured we had more talent than we did when he first came in. He was guilty of ovfervalueing some players. Because of that, he traded for Kessel.

After that, he seemed to have realized that his club was more poop thatn first thought.

He then proceeeded to trade away every member of said poopty ass team, in order to try and rebuild the current core, as well as stock the farm team whenever he could. Look at the moves he made from that point on, none of them cost us anything big in the deal.

Phanuef, Ashton, Sjostrom - Stajan, Hagman, MAyers, White (Only good piece)
Lupul, Gardiner - Beauchemin
Biggs (piece), 3rd rounder - Versteeg
Franson, Lombo - Lebda, Slaney
Colborne, Liles, Biggs (piece) - Kaberle

He has essentially revamped the leafs as well as adding to the Marlies, while making one bad trade, which still got us a great player. Of course with all of the problems we have encountered so far, people tend to focus ont he bad deal more, and ignore the benefits.

The fact that he never signed anyone to more than a 5 year deal essentially makes it so that after this upcoming year, we have more than enough spots to move the players he has acquired (AND NOT RUSHED INTO THE NHL) into their respective roles, replacing the useless pieces that he signed in the mean time as temporarily relief for the young kids.

Remember when KAdri was hailed as the savior of the LEafs? Burke has since given him the time he needs to develop some areas of his game in the Marlies. He is also now getting valuable experience in the AHL playoffs..

What is so wrong with this picture? We preach that we need patience, but no one has any.

We are fine right now, relax, and stop reading into what the media emphasizes Burke saying. They jump on anything, and could care less about the club itself, only trying to help themselves.

Ashton, Frattin, Ross, Biggs, Phaneuf, Schenn, etc... We have our grit. Add in 1 or two guys from trade or free agnecy,a nd we're fine in that department.

Gardiner, Kessel, Lupul, Grabo, Kadri, Liles, Phaneuf, etc... We have our scoring ability. Even though I dont like Phaneuf, he seems to do ok on the score sheet.

Reimer and Scrivens are two potential future starters, give them some guidance for now in the way of a vet and our goalitending looks like it coul dbe ok.

All we need is patience.

You're right! That's what I've been saying all along. People want Burke's head, for what? He hasn't screwed up this team, he's rebuilding it. I'm not worried about it being done quick, I want it done right. Burke hasn't been perfect, but, he HAS NOT put this club in jeopardy at all.

And everyone buys into it. It's insane.

someone tell me how many GMs have taken a club from 2nd last to Stanley cup champs in 4 years?

Other than Ray Shero who had 5 top 2 picks on his team, including being lucky enought o get 2 of the best playuers in all of hockey.

I agree, but then you will get some people (I assume UG would be one of them, that says having HAmilton, Seguin, and Knight is the thing that puts us in jeopardy.

Yes, it sucks that we could have had those players.

YOu know what else sucks? That we could have technically drafter Giroux, Skinner, and other great players with first round picks we've had in the past. Instead we have other players who havent proven nearly as much (just like 90% of the other teams).

Draft picksw are risky and people overrate them. We got a proven player in Kessel. We also got a great prospect in Gardiner, and a rejuvenated player in Lupul (hopefully it continues, but we'll see).

If you look at the positives, you can actually be optimistic about the team, but hey... to each his own

Listen, as far as I'm concerned. Hamilton, Seguin and Knight were non existant when the trade was made. Burke DID NOT trade those players for Kessel, he traded the draft picks that turned into Kessel for those players. BLINDING difference right there. And moreover, Kessel's shown more to his game than what was first expected... The guy's also got some slick playmaking skills... How many teams lament a PPG player on their team?

Ya, Kessel will never be a PF, but damn he can score and he can make plays. I'm quite happy with him doing his thing and finding another talented player that can be the PF....

Its obviously a good idea to keep trying to draft as high as possible each year, but not at the cost of tanking and creating a "not so winning" atmosphere. Its tough to find the balance between keeping your club/players competitive while also ensuring you can improve the team with youth/draft picks down the road.

While I dont think Burke has done a GREAT job at this so far, I do strongly believe hes on the right track and is merely trying to restock the team to a point where it should have been before he took over. Now that hes essentially reached that point, imo, he can now start tweeking the roster more and more and begin to see his young players come into fruition.

As mentioned, its been long and rough, but patience could pay off for this club in another 2 years or so.
