Parise has never played center in the NHL because both he and his coaches have agreed, unanimously, that he's not good there. This isn't one coach. This is every single one he's ever had. Including himself.

Because both Kessel and Grabovski need the puck on their stick. They're both shooters. They mix like oil and water.

It's been tried and it failed. He hates it and his coaches don't like it either.

Kessel and Grabovski when on the ice together, have the puck in the oppositions zone 56% of the time. When not together this number substantially decreases. (corsi #'s). I recall MANY times in between line changes where these two would hemm the opposition in their zone and it would create a goal. They are not like oil and water, THAT is a false assumption. Grabovski and Kessel are both solid playmakers, and although Kessel, loves the puck on his stick ON THE RUSH he doesnt necessarily love having it on his stick in the offensive zone (unless its him getting the puck from a playmaker behind traffic to create an opening for his shot, whether its after a move or on the one timer). He gets trapped along the wall looking for an outlet many-a-time but Grabovski always finds a way to get open (great for this issue). You're not looking at the big picture you are looking at small instances, like "Kessel likes to shoot and so does Grabo", "Grabo likes the puck on his stick and so does Kessel". Those are very limited perspectives.
-
As for Parise saying he hates center, where did you read this? Do you have a source or video of comfirmation? The only way i see him hating center is if he's playing beside that gumba Kovalchuk, which i don't blame him for.

With the success they are having this year, there is less than a 0% chance that Parise walks out the doors from NJ. We really should all stop talking about it...and quite frankly....even if he did....I very much doubt Toronto will be the place he wants to come to. Just saying.

Oh, and of course....

Well there were at one time many rumors of the Devils in bankruptcy.... that's really the only thing in my mind that might prevent him from staying.

We know Burke won't do a long term contract and the notion of Parise leaving to NJ to play here even if the Leafs offer less than another team is nonsense.

So it's probable he leaves but to come to this poop show? Nah

Whether it was 23 or 25, does it really matter or are you so hard pressed to make any valid points that you would rather argue semantics rather than the actual core points of discussion? Franson got benched because he sucked. If he was good enough, it would have been somebody else who got benched. And Franson is lucky Liles got hurt otherwise he would have seen a lot more of the press box.

- Unholy_Goalie

At times, Franson struggled. ALL leafs defenders struggled.

There were other reasons he was benched and Schenn was not (mostly). Schenn is the golden child, Franson is a newcomer.

I would rather see Schenn gone than Franson. Franson at least showed signs of potential to be an impact player. Schenn shows potential to be able to shut down the other team's 3rd line, sometimes. Frankly, he was the worst Leafs Dman this year. With Phaneuf and Komi on the team that is saying something.

I would not give up on either because they are young.

Oh, and don't start with the 200 hits. It is not like Schenn was out there hitting like Stevens. Everyone in the NHL knows that stat is a complete joke. Schenn got credited with a hit whenever he was in the same area code as an opposing player.

Lots of other things also happened or didn't happen when Schenn was in the same area code as an opposing player... 1) brutal giveaways happened. 2) Confusion on Schenn's face happened. 3) an attempt at a hit that missed and took him out of the play happened 4) Goals against happened.... what almost never happened was any contact in front of the Leafs net, or any hit that even slowed down, nevermind hurt an opposing player.

Franson was soft also, way too soft... but he doesn't carry around the nickname the human eraser.

Wrong season. No big deal.

In his rookie year, he was 3rd in total ice time and 4th in average ice time. That's a fact and he was a top four defender.

- Unholy_Goalie

Yes, and he is worse now than he was then... and not everyone struggled under Napoleon. Schenn is a disappointment, who did not deserve to be in the NHL last year.

There are a few players who will not be coming to Toronto this year

Parise
Sutter
Webber
Doan

There are a few players who may be coming to Toronto this Year'
Luongo,
Nash
Semin
Rudulov

There will be a big trade or 2 that is for certain. Brian Burke does not know how to stand still and wait for development of his own players

LOL..um no he doesnt. Even D'amigo has a better chance than Ashton.
-
Prospect chances of making the team next year in this order:
1. Kadri
2. Frattin
3. D'amigo
4. Colborne
5. Scrivens
6. Blacker
7. Ashton
-
Ashton was garbage when he was up with the Leafs this year. That said, he has a solid work ethic and good frame/skillset to work with. He's very raw, but with a few yrs down on the Marlies may become something worthwhile.

- Rysko81

Colborne?

Maybe we could package Schenn and Colborne to St. Louis for a 1/2 hour practice with Hitchrichard.

Some of us wish he would just stay the course and not trade away any future. In fact, I would not mind a step back if they traded away Phaneuf and Lupul.

At the same time, the Toronto media and Leafs fans in general, and historically ownership also have no stomach for patience. We see some patience on these boards... but very little elsewhere.

So, yeah I can see Burke not being patient.

ROFL!

... that is every morning

At least I would be patient with Schenn because his potential will take a while to be realized, or not.

Colborne though, showed me so little that I can't imagine him playing in the NHL. He isn't close.

I agree, Patience is key. If people wanna see 10 to 15 years of a good team and good hockey this is the way. I do still believe that Burke is the man for the job...

I wonder what would have happened had Burke come out at his initial press conference and said, this team is going to stuggle for 4 to 6 years while I rebuild it from scratch. I wonder what the response would have been now...

I have a feeling Colborne will be traded...unless he really steps up the next 2 AHL rounds...but his finger is injured right now so he's benched

The funny thing is now, that if Burke actually does what he should (which is basically nothing other than ship out a few players, and start bringing up the talent fromt he marlies), he will lose his job at years end, becausue we wont have made much progress in the standings most likely.

However, if he makes a trade, using some future pieces and brings in a player or two that give us that push to make the playoffs, he will keep his job, but screw up the future in the process.

Lose, lose situation for Burkie.

Burke could have said just about ANYTHING and he would have been critisized. Thats the problem with the amount of media and fans that we have, you cant please everyone. Theres never really one right answer with this club, because we have reporters who seemingly always take the "opposite" view and then create histeria within the fanbase which tranlates to....well....this.

Imo, the only "bigger" thing that Burke needs to address is the goaltending "sitch". We could afford to, imo, go without a star centerman or another star top6 guy for another little while, but we really need an experienced goalie who can step in for the number one spot right away and help mentor/develop our younger goalies.

Aside from that, we merely need some better grit and character guys on this team, cause we really missed that last year/two.
