Why wouldn't they? He's THEIR asset, technically, if Buffalo wanted to be pissy about it, could say Gillis is tampering because he's talking about a player under contract with another team. Use YOUR noodle for a change, you think Gillis was worried about his ass when he was given a 4 year extension? And why wouldn't he defend AV? It's called loyalty to a coach that's got them 2 President's Trophies and 1 Stanley Cup Final along with several consecutive division titles and multiple 40+ win seasons. Everyone blames AV for what he said about Cody in his first real training camp and yet everyone conveniently forgets that it took two different doctors hired by Hodgson to finally diagnose his injury. What was the coach supposed to say when his own medical staff cleared him to play, "Oh, yeah, he says he's injured even though the doctors have cleared him to play medically and can't find anything wrong. Guess we'll just take him at his word." I'm starting to wonder that if we even DID win the Stanley Cup if people would finally stop having an inferiority complex. It's getting ridiculous the amount of hate for the architects of a team that STILL is a contender even though we were knocked out of the first round this year. Can you say the same for the 94 team? As I recall, they were a 7 seed that, like LA, got hot and beat Calgary (who was head and shoulders better than the Canucks that year) and Dallas, who was the top team in the West before steamrolling Toronto before losing in 7 to the Rangers. After that, we all know how the team dropped into irrelevancy until the WCE days.

Buffalo has no need to protect Hodgson from what Gillis is saying. I still dont understand what you are thinking? Why would they get into a pissing match? And no they couldnt file a tampering claim. There's no rule about talking about what happened while the player was a Canuck. You are way off...

Just because the doctors couldnt find the injury means AV had to go public and make that accusation? Thats crazy...thats also stupid. What purpose does it serve? What would be the result of being wrong? Wait, we saw what.....

I don't know where you are going with bringing up 94. The Canucks were a serious underdog and the team lost in the final with a ton of heart. To think the team didnt do so well the following year is understandable since they were a cindarella story to begin with. This current team just won two PT's in a row and is considered one of the most stacked teams in the NHL and best in a bunch of catagories typically. Did any of those 94 players win a Hart or two scoring titles? Did they have a Selke winner.. the one two punch in net that this team has... they had a coach who took a underdog far tho...

Don't preach to me about hate. That's just juvinile. It's always the same with guys like you...you take one of the few criticisms someone has ever expressed about Gillis and turn it into hate. So why do you hate me then if this is your logic?

I remember Kelly Hrudey ripping into Cody a bit on HNIC when this all went down. He gave an example of when Pat Lafontaine came into the league and had to play behind Trottier and Brent Sutter. Hrudey said, what ever happen to having to earn your way? I think he said it took Lafontaine four years before he took over one of those spots. There's always two sides to every story and everyone thinks they know what transpired behind closed doors, well, you don't. That includes Gary Roberts!

Oh come on...Cody was demoted to the 4rth line at a time when he wasnt playing bad and better than some of his team mates. In fact many people thought he was earning ice time he never recieved. This is at a time when Kesler was hurt and the team was having trouble scoring. Why wouldnt he want more ice time to help the team and himself? He was hungry for more after all his set backs and coaching hurddles. Hrudey can shove his lesbien hair cut up his a$$. We want hungry players instead of the complacent group(we know who they are) who does not always earn their endless unproductive ice time.

Sounds like a player issue by design to me and not the last.

Here's the person that said Luongo would ask for a trade last December when all of you flamed me. Apparently this person has a source in the canucks organization. High up. Take it for what you want.

On AV:

Wants to come back. Was part of the decision re Luongo/Cory and is fine with how it all went down. Has been silent waiting for MG to get his deal and business attended to. MG wants him back and it is expected that he will get a similar 4 year extension same as MG. MG has assured several players that AV will be back. The players are big AV supporters and want him back. A feeling of unfinished business. WOW.

On Luongo:

Toronto is the front runner, for now. Allaire is the draw that has Luongo putting them on his list that does not exist. The cost will be high as MG does have 3 other teams that are also very high on Luongo but MG wants to try and deal Luongo to one of his top two choices, not at the risk of a bad deal, however.

Kassian:

Players love him and feel he is the real deal. Described as a good kid and real team player. Was just a little lost at the end of the year and hasn't found a role. He is described as very reserved and shy. Team has him on a strict off season training plan and the players are very high on what he can bring to the team down the road. Next year may be a little too early to see what it is felt he can bring so time will tell.

Hodgson:

Not missed

Salo:

Wants to come back one more year. Canucks have said the same thing to him as last year, we want you back but we have to wait to see what we can afford over the summer.

Burrows:

Took a home team discount last time with no regrets but won't this time around. Wants to re-sign but at full market value or he will go to UFA.

Manny:

Canucks are unsure whether he can regain his form and he may be bought out if he can't. They are very non comital about him but will not go into the season with him if he has not improved his all round game.

MayRay:

Still up in the air if they qualify him. Don't feel he is worth the money he would make but don't want to lose an asset for nothing. Will try to move his rights before July 1.

Edler:

Undisclosed injuries but I can't get any more than that but I'm thinking the back is just not right.

Pahlsson:

Are very high on him and would like him back as their third line centre, which could mean another nail for Manny.

Down on the Farm:

They are expecting 2-4 players to make an impact at camp. Hopeful Eddie can be back up but they aren't sure if he is ready. Camp will tell but they are also looking for a veteran back up if Luongo is moved. High on Connaughton and he may get a hard look this year. Our diminutive centre will get a long look especially with Kesler's rehab. Would like at least 2 players to break through and make the team for obvious cap reasons and for future development reasons.

Great stuff!!

I actually wouldn't mind Pahlsson back for another year, I'd be weary of a multi-year deal for a player of his age though. Sounds like Lu might bring back more of a return than just a salary dump like most are assuming, which doesn't surprise me sincere realistically only has 6 or 7 years on his deal. Surprised to hear that they would be willing to buyout Manny.

Thanks for sharing!

Couple things we can probably agree on. Number one, I'm not a fan of AV! The sooner he leaves town the better. Two, young players wanting more ice time is a good thing. But calling a meeting with the coach and GM to whine about it is not.

I don't know what was said behind closed doors and I've never met Cody so I don't know what type of person he is. Or if he is in fact high maintenance?

Facts are, he's gone! I'm glad to have Kassian because I think he's gonna be a helluva player some day. As a fan, I'm not gonna sit here and cry about what happened yesterday with this kid...he's gone. I'm moving on, just repeating what Hrudey said.

People keep saying they are moving on but every time I log on people are talking about it still. Me...you...our blogger...so on so forth. If the topic of AV, Gillis and Cody are in the blog,,,,I think what we are doing is called a discussion...not crying. Bringing in new quotes from other hockey personalities like Hrudey is sure to spark more discusion....and it did.

Unfortunately....until Zack Kassian makes us forget about Cody (and he will, given the chance) this will probably go on. I don't mind thowing a quote or my 2 cents in here and there, but I'm not willing to get into a full-scale debate on the subject. That's my prerogative

Did anyone catch the article in the province today on Schroeder.

http://www.theprovince.co...anucks/6594956/story.html

Seems likes he's very honest with himself. That's probably why there's been so much improvement over last year. How does that make you feel Booner?

Warm and fuzzy.

If Gillis trades Schroeder...will he be the next prospect you go from building up to knocking down over night??

I don't understand how you come to all this stuff. He SEEMS like he's honest with himself? Thats PROBABLY why there's been SO MUCH improvement. Give me a break...he's young and improving like almost any other 1st rounder does. Thats what happens...they improve. I don't see how honesty is the reason and I hink you have been exaggerating his progress to be honest. You are not the only one here closely watching our popects.

You are starting to hype Schroeder just like you did Hodgson. You even built Kassian up and claimed we were instantly bigger tougher an grittier for the playoffs after obtaining him. You went as far as to point out that the other team was cowering when he was on the ice (st louis) even when someone went out of their way to slew foot him....

You will think diferently in the future. You are young and get excited easy.
