You guys would honestly buyout Briere? Ugghh if that happens my dad might put the remote through the TV.
- Sabreshark

If you keep Briere, he's forcing Couturier or Schenn to the wing or 4th line. There's a logjam in the middle & somebody's odd man out.

If you dump Bryzgalov, you have no goalie outside of Bob. Then you're in the same position you were last summer, forced to either overpay for a vet or roll the dice on a kid.

The rub is that Briere is a proven playoff performer and he comes off the books years before Bryz does.

I guess it all depends on what goalies are on the market this off-season.

I'd imagine some don't even know they are doing it, others not so much.

The real rub is that it's academic, there's not likely to be an amnesty buyout.

But I'd still buy out Briere, because that's a position where they have depth. If they buy out Bryz, again, they have to spend assets or cash to fill the spot.

I assume it's the exclamation mark, but there's no pop-up when you hover over the button telling you what it's function is. Shoddy web design.

Of course it's academic, until one of us becomes GM that is. I'm working on it...I mean, my name is out there so it might just happen...

Your argument has merit, the only problem being the perception we over-paid for Bryz in both dollars and time.

I really don't think it's a perception. They did over pay. You have to over pay to land a top Free Agent. If the Flyers are going to go after someone like Suter, they will again, have to overpay.

True. But Briere's also not worth what he's making, he's older and he's costing more against the cap. The biggest issue for me is he's forcing the kids to secondary roles and/or other positions.

I also think that Bryzgalov, now that he's seen and dealt with the city, it's fans and media is going to rebound strongly.

He said(paraphrasing here), "It'd be crazy to comapre the firefighters and police to hockey players..."

Then he compared firefighters and police officers to hockey players. It was stellar.

Yup. That's what I'm hoping as well. We all saw flashes of the Bryz that is worth the commitment we gave him...that guy just needs to show up a lot more often.

It's a gamble either way, but I would have no problem sending Briere to a contender so he has a chance at a cup and getting some good young players in return. His performance during the regular season seems in decline, and although he's a scorer in the post-season, he's also a monstrous defensive liability.

But if we ended up keeping him (as you said, amnesty can't be counted upon), I'm ok with that as well. He's a pretty stand-up guy, even with all the friggin penalties he takes.

Yup, fair point.

We just need to hope Bryz settles in and is comfortable from the get-go with the city/team/fans/pressure, etc. next year. Not that he was horrible - obviously our point total was pretty good - but we all know he can be better than he was for stretches.

I never saw much of Bryz before he got here. I'm hoping this was a year of him adjusting to life in the city of brotherly love. No way Homer looks to trade him, not after one year.

agreed, and nor should he look to move him. i would also suggest that even if he did look, he would not find a trading partner.
