I don't think Winnipeg is going to deal Bogo, but if he became available, I'd trade JVR for him in a minute. I'm a JVR fan too.

So would I. Agree on the latter also.

If hypothetically Timonen was done, I would be interested.

But not if Kimmo returns?

Obviously we'd have to clear cap space to fit both under next season.

Also, sorry if leight, but there is a Pronger new conference on Thursday. Homer will be updating his condition.

Bogo played tremendous down the stretch, and is going to be a bonafide beast in this league for years to come. I'm sure Homer loves him, but I'd bet Winnipeg does too. They'd be foolish to deal him IMO.

First I heard of the News Conference. It would be difficult to fit him in at 7M with Timonen still on the books.

He's 21. Players of that caliber at that age, at that position are invaluable.

Of course, they could always front-load the deal and add years to lower his cap hit, a la Bryz or Briere.

Absolutely they could. That would be a way to fit him in. Along with the accompanying NMC. But this town doesn't like non physical defenseman.

Kimmo isn't exactly considered a physical defenseman is he?

Meszaros played admirably for a player in his situation. But he was clearly still hindered and not 100%
- MJL

Oh yes. but I was heartened by what he WAS able to do. When he's all healed up he'll be ready to go and be Drej Meszy for us in the fall.

I really feel as though Coburn was beastly in these playoffs and down the stretch. He is beginning to resemble a top-pair defenseman, and that bodes well for the future. I was very impressed with his play.

Homer has work to do, but I think we have more defensive depth than people realize.

Lots of people itch and moan about not having that bona fide #1 beast dman (especially since Kimmo has been declining). With this being said, let's look at our defense corps:

Kimmo- the iron horse is finally showing his age, but he's still as reliable as they come. Will he return? His salary is declining with his health, and soon he'll be completely off the books.

Coburn- he's really rounding into form as a top pairing guy. At best, Braydon can be called an above average 2nd pair guy.

Carle- ahhhhhhh good ol Matty Carle. The muffinman. He has his ups and downs, and I don't expect him to be a Flyer next season. We can ignore him, for my purposes.

Mez- he's showed flashes of solid play in both the D and O zones. Definitely a solid player, and still has some time to improve. I'd say there's no question that he's a 2nd pairing player on most teams.

Lilja- though I scapegoated him, maybe sometimes unfairly, throughout the season, he came here to be the veteran #7 that can step in when needed, and he did in a major way. I believe he exceeded expectations.

Gus- finally...it looks like we've actually groomed an NHL dman. Gus is promising to me, and has the tools to grow into a solid defenseman. Right now, he's still going to play on the 3rd pair.

Grossmann- nothing needs to be said here. A great defenseman. A lot like Kimmo...just roll him out and forget it.

So, even with Pronger as a question mark, I think our D depth is overlooked. And in letting Carle walk, we could have some dough here to provide short term plugs until Prongs and Kimmo come off the books.

Once that happens, we can definitely get that stud we're looking for. To which I say, "Watch out, NHL."

Just some random observations....kind of rambling. What can I say. I'm a ramblin man (ALLMAN BROS REFERENCE).

* Ilya Bryzgalov actually played pretty well throughout the series when it came to stopping non-deflected shots and rebounds from in close. But his puck handling was a ticking time bomb. The bomb went off in the first period last night on New Jersey's backbreaking second goal. I still have no idea why Bryzgalov didn't cover the puck rather than trying to play through David Clarkson. For those who blame Kimmo Timonen for the mishap, it's not all that uncommon for a defenseman to play the puck back to his goalie. That one was on Bryzgalov alone for taking too long and then making the ill-advised flip of the puck right into Clarkson and the net.

Exactly.

Bryz played well, but he screwed up that play like a boss.
