20th overall pick. I wanted Dalton Thrower. But i dont think he'll be selected that high.
- Sabreshark

It was mentioned earlier they'd be at #22 but if it is #20

it puts Matt Finn, Slater Koekkoek, or Olli Määttä in play....Possibly Brady Skjei if they feel he is worth it that high.

If you remember the specifics of that convo i mentioned him whilting against a defensive team. I'm not quite ready to jump around and say I told ya so, because other players had drop offs too, but he imo was a hindrance in that series.
- JoeRussomanno

He still was a provider of what little offense the Flyers actually mustered, but yes, he was very liable in the D zone. Part of that is not really having good linemates to compliment him with, but it can get tiresome to have to worry about Danny's defense when trying to assemble lines.

Unfortunately the entire team kind of played Danny Briere defense the whole series... if only he does it it can be tolerable and covered up to a degree.

he consistantly stunk this year
- vejim

That's not true. He was very good for stretches during the season. He was inconsistent, but he didn't stink.

I feel there are two ways to go with the Defense. If the right player for the right deal is available, then absolutely make the move. Whether that's a trade or a free agent pick up. But don't make the move just to make a move.

If Carle doesn't come back. Which I think is going to be the case. Another option is elevating Meszaros and Coburn. Both have shown in the past, to have offensive ability from the backend. And signing a short term solution. Just a solid defender who can play physical, and play well in his own end. And when Timonen comes off the books, there will be some coin to make a splash.

Or his willingness to get dirty. He needs open ice to play his game. Plenty of smaller players make careers around playing defensive hockey, stature is an excuse, not a reason. But to the earlier point, I agree he's past the age of changing his ways and his money is guaranteed.
- canadianpenfan

Briere really doesn't need open ice. He is very adept at hiding in the shadows and coming out at the right time and striking. One of the biggest reasons why Briere is so money in the playoffs, is his willingness to go into traffic, and the dangerous areas of the ice to score. He scores a lot of goals around the net in traffic.

I argued with you about Briere during the Pens series, because I did think the scales ultimately tipped in his favor considering the series as a whole, but he was absolutely terrible for the most part against New Jersey. I'd probably lean to do the buyout at this point if it came down to it. Maybe I'm fickle

Seidenberg was a Flyers draft pick was he not? He has really impressed me the last couple of years, he would be a solid addition to both of our blue lines.

I know what he was saying. And what I was saying was all the bad we'd heard about Emery had been overblown claptrap.
- bodiva88

It really was unfortunate Emery got injured. He had played very well before the injury, he was liked by his teammates, and showed a real appreciation and maturity for handling the City. I think Emery would have done good things here.

When he lies down in the crease he takes up so much room i doubt even Bryzgalov could let a goal in.

Everyone was bad, but without looking, it just seemed he was on the ice for just about every goal against. I know that doesn't necessarily mean it was Danny that lost the coverage, but..

Coburn.

In my opinion, Coburn was as good as I have seen him, this play-off.

That and make other teams pay...they have to be big enough to handle th forechecking...that's where the problem was...small guys were targeted and worn down to a nub

Holmgren has work to do on the blueline. There isn't anyone on the roster right now that resembles a top pairing guy. Unfortunately Kimmo is breaking down, and Pronger is done. Flyers have some solid guys in Coburn, Mesz, and Grossmann, but they need a stud to anchor the d-core.
- PLindbergh31

I really feel as though Coburn was beastly in these playoffs and down the stretch. He is beginning to resemble a top-pair defenseman, and that bodes well for the future. I was very impressed with his play.
