Doesnt his sv % get skewed because of the number of shots? The Devils had a great system as stated. So if he only faces 22 shots and gives up a goal his sv % is going to be lower than a player who faced 35 shots and gives up two goals.

I honestly dont know if Brodeur would of been worse or better if he faced more shots during that period of time.

I do understand what your saying though.

Put Hasek or Roy behind Stevens, Niedermayer, Daneyko and Rafalski and tell me how many cups they win!

there is definitely a team aspect to it, but not like GAA, IMO.

Meaningless, IMO. He didn't see a lot of shots (Devils often allowed fewest in the league) so let's say he won a lot of 3-1 and 3-2 games where he faced anywhere from about 16 to 22 shots. Not going to look great on the save percentage but he rarely let in soft goals in his prime.

Brodeur was one of the all-time greats. Don't know if I'd say he was the best ever like some folks do, but he's way up there. There were years where he'd go weeks without allowing a soft goal.

Patrick Roy has 3 Conn Smythe trophies.

Brodeur has none.

This debate is usually held around a table, over beers, after a hockey game. And sooner or later, someone always says, "Game 7, Stanley Cup finals - who would you rather have in net, Roy or Brodeur?"

Well, 3 times Roy was the best player on the ice throughout the playoffs. Brodeur never was.

That's the tipping point for me.

Meaningless is overstating it as much as I'm exaggerating.

He's obviously one of the best just based on team accomplishments. I just think if you replaced him with, say, 18 years of a healthy Tomas Vokoun or someone, you've got pretty similar results.

Hasek is the best IMO (but I also may have slight homer glasses on), but I will say hes not nearly as accomplished as Brodeur.

I stated already that I think Roy and Hasek are better than Brodeur. So I do agree with you there. However, it was stated that he is the most overrated player in NHL history or that anyone could be thrown in net for those Devil teams. Brodeur was a great goalie IMO.
