Strome would have to have grown by leaps and bounds compared to last year in camp to legitimately earn a spot on the team. Just going by the preseason games he was in, he looked like he had a long way to go in several areas...strength, skating, and thinking the game at a faster pace.

He looks good though, definitely has to put on some weight which is the norm. Hope they don't rush him?

Yeah, in all likelihood, he's our best prospect. I'm happy we have him in the system and I don't doubt at all he'll be really good for the Isles down the line. He just didn't look anywhere near NHL-ready this past year in camp, from the little I saw. Haven't seen him since the WJC, so who knows...maybe he's a lot closer now. But they better not throw him in the lineup based on BS "promises" or for cap-circumvention nonsense. Give him an honest shot, but if there's even a shred of doubt, let's not pretend he has "nothing left to learn in juniors" like they did with Nino.

Short of a terrible camp, Strome will probably deserve a 9 or less game stint to start the season. If he fits, awesome that's great news. If he doesn't, no problem at all..back to juniors he goes and we're no worse for it.

I have a feeling he will get the 9 game look(not sure if it's less since he used some of those games at the start of this season) and makes a case to stay. The kid seems to have the right mental makeup and work ethic from what I've seen/heard of him. If he hasn't filled out enough physically than that's a different story. If that's the case, then they probably shouldn't keep him for the 9 games. That would be apparant in camp.

He didn't burn any games last year, he sat in the press box for every game we kept him around for. So he has up to 9, before year one of his ELC kicks in. Definitely not worried about his work ethic, either. I'll reserve final judgement until after rookie/main camps, but I see no reason as of now, why he shouldn't at least get a few games. For all we know, he could get outplayed by someone in camp and even if he looks good he may have to go back just because there isn't a spot.

You put him wherever the hell he wants to play. RT @woodgrov: @coreypronman Do you still think Tavares would be better on the wing?

What I have learned from intently following the Islanders day after day. Week after week. Month after month and year after year.

We can list a 1000 different scenarios suggesting what we believe the Isles should do in the upcoming 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
After we read all the reviews, watch all the videos & listen to all the interviews. We can make educated guesses. We can Unleash our wildest ideas. We can suggest trades. We can weigh the pros and cons of moving up, down or staying pat with the 4th pick. We can pray that the Isles pick our favorite Prospect.

But in the end. Yet Again,Wang / Snow will surprise the hell out of us (shame on us for being surprised) and do something that will have every Isles fan/NHL fan scratching their heads! Wondering, "What the Heck"?

Then as in nearly every other draft. The spin will begin. The battles will commence between fellow Isles fans. Then insults and digs will follow from our rival fans.

While half of us Isles fans will be praising Wang/Snow as Genius. The other Half will be questioning their competence. The debates will continue over the success or lack of success attributed to this, Oh so long and tedious rebuild. The second guessing, arguments and squabbles will rage for days.

But this year will be a bit different.

Yes after the frustration of so many losing seasons. So many disappointments. All the insults and the yrs of lottery draft picks. Isles fans will do something that only a select few have considered in the past.

We Fans will question our own sanity for daring to believe that we can predict what the Isles will do on Draft Day!

And if by chance you do predict the outcome of the Isles 2012 NHL 1st Rd Draft Pick. Dont brake your arm patting yourself on the back.

Look for the nearest Psych Ward. Because all it will mean is your as crazy as the Guys running the Asylum known as the NY Islanders.

Pretty good summary of the standard offseason here. When the Isles traded for Rolston and signed Staios and Pandolfo, and then put Nino on the fourth line, and people were saying those were adequate moves, I always wondered what those same people would have said if I hopped in a time machine and went back to the beginning of the offseason when we were all throwing around names of top-6 wingers and top-4 d-men, and proposed those exact moves.

having said that, i think the islanders should trade their pick for an established dman and move down in the draft and pick up a high risk/high reward kinda dman prospect... something like griffin reinhart

Clearly the most intimidating name in the draft, even if the player himself is not.

Beat me to the punch. Haven't heard a single shred of that ever. Why Winnipeg would trade their best player is beyond me.

In #Isles coaching staff news, all signs point towards Bridgeport head coach Brent Thompson becoming an assistant under Jack Capuano (first reported by Arthur Staple). Although his Sound Tigers were swept out of the AHL playoffs - in part because he had to play raw kids like Brock Nelson who were not quite ready for the pros - Thompson's work in his first year in Bridgeport was well-received. As for Doug Weight, his influence continues to grow with Wang/Snow and he intends to stay with the NYI.

Yikes, I wouldn't give that much up for Kane. Nino's gone from our top prospect to a throw-in for a 57-point player because of one horribly mismanaged season? Let's give the kid a chance to develop properly.

def not a throw in, evander kane is a gritty player, hard nosed, willing to get dirty kinda player that would look really nice on JTs line....if we were going off of just point totals id be dying to resign PAP-- dont even get me starting with the way he was handled-- but im not.

maybe its overpayment, maybe if more picks were involved IE our 3rd and their first, it could work out...

our 1st, 3rd, nino
for kane and their first....

Kane is awesome, I'd take him over Nino 10x out of 10. He's what we're hoping Nino could be.
