Him or whoever we draft this year. I am sure we will draft a future star, afterall Snow is a genious. All joking aside we better hope Snow is going after a Dman this year and a top six forward. He also needs to re-sign PA. If none get done the first overall will be ours next year unless the NHL fixes it for Edmonton to win the lottery again.

I have heard this line before. I am giving him and Okposo onemore year to show what they got, if they have another bad year then we have to think bust status

Apparently Scott mayfield is exactly what we need. He will replace hammer as our stay at home dman when hammer becomes the next sutter with more size

Hamonic isn't going anywhere. He'll be #1 priority on the agenda next year for a new contract, as his ELC expires after next season. Hamonic and Mayfield could be a deadly future shutdown pair that log huge minutes against other teams top lines. Our Girardi/McDonagh or Weber/Suter.

I think bailey will have 55 points this season at Wong maybe even more
And okposo, I think he will have a good season as well

- Danformo

I still want to see it every night from Bailey- he has a different kind of game that's harder to qualify....i.e., to have success, he has to do a whole lot of little things at both ends of the ice. He also NEEDS to make quicker decisions. I started to see that towards the end of the year, but we'll have to see consistency over a long period before I'm sold on that one.

In contrast, Okposo, to me, is a goal scoring power forward- it's a lot easier to see when the light bulb finally starts shining in that case, and I think it finally has.

I didn't mean hammer was leaving. I ment it as hammer will be two way while mayfield will be shut down

And hammer/mayfield would be a suter/giradi . Respectively

Yeah, I mean..trade Hamonic? Really? Who in the world would do that? He's ALREADY our best defenseman, and he's a kid. That would be beyond asinine.

PS- I'm just reacting to some of the Oilers' fans responses to Eklund's rumor here..

Ah..I saw "replace Hammer" and "the next Suter" and I assumed you meant he was going to leave the team via free agency. I won't anoint anyone the next Suter or Girardi yet, but I will say I don't think it's unfair to say that Hamonic's ceiling is somewhere near that range. Emphasis on "near" because I don't feel like dealing with someone accusing me of saying that I think he'll be the "next" Suter/Girardi. Book is still out on Mayfield, as far as I'm concerned. But hearing stuff like this (response to my question on his thoughts about Mayfield) from a scout makes me feel good:

Corey Pronman @coreypronman

I'm a fan. Such great tools. Really came on in 2nd half.

Wasn't this supposed to 2 seasons ago?
Wasn't this supposed to be this year?

Yeah, they really turned it on after we were eliminated this year. Awesome.

Let it go. If you and him want to go searching to every obscure web site to see if you can find someone who calls DeHaan, Cizikas, or Mayfield top end, blue chip, high end go right ahead. If that makes you feel better and convinces you the Islanders are drafting wizards than great! I've read about these kids already, I watched the draft. I've been watching hockey for over thirty years and think I have a pretty good grasp of the sport. If you think Snow is doing a commendable job, believe what you want. If you think we are right on the cusp of being a great team, I say all the power to you. If you think we have top end prospects I say sure, OK. We'll see? Believe what you will. I'm done, you guys are right! Kabanov, Cizikas, Mayfield, DeHaan, are all top end talent. No need to bring up these web sites anymore, you guys are right. I'm an ass, you have proved me and lots of others who are all wrong! Who would've known the amount of information I could get from hockey forums and hockeyprospectus? Good job

dehaan is a work in progress..we hope he can be a top pairing dman but we don't know yet. cizikas has top end intangables but he is a third line center..which isn't a bad thing...dont be fooled by what you read..our top end prospects are strome nino nelson donovan and the two goalies any other prospects developing into top end talent would be them exceeding their projections

mayfield should be in there instead of donovan...mayfield is a potential top 4...donovan is 2nd or 3rd pairing

just trying to strike up some convo...my point isnt to "prove" anything or anyone right/wrong...im just saying that i have no reason to believe the prospect pool isnt stacked based on what i read...you said you also have never seen these guys play and say they arent top end talent based on what you read, and then rip the things that are posted as obscure sites...so what are you reading from legit sites that are saying these guys arent top end talent? thats all im asking for....

I've read from the same site, hockey news, the same forums you have and the whole world has access too. Those hockey forums and prospectus change their rankings constantly. These kids are not top end prospects, they may be one day and they may even be great NHL players but as of now there is not one who I would say is top end talent(besides Strome who most still consider a maybe). I go from their present work. If DeHaan is a work in progress(which he obviously is) you couldn't call him a top end prospect. That title goes to someone who is a can't miss IMO and I'm sure most share that belief as well. Again, if it makes you feel better about our future than good for you, really. Not trying to be sarcastic, I mean it. I don't believe for a second that our prospect pool is as full of talent as you think it is and a lot would agree.

Two scouts, all over the OHL playoffs, on #Isles first round pick Ryan Strome – Is he a potential first-line forward in the NHL? Scout 1: “At worst, he’s a second-line, 50-point player in a few years, and could be a lot more with good development.” Scout 2: “Yes. Big talent, good habits.” Do you think he should be in the NHL or OHL next season? 1: “OHL. Let him get stronger. Don’t rush.” 2: “Learn from Niederreiter. Let him play a few NHL games in October and then get his ass back to junior.”

Ryan Strome, the only one I said could be considered high end. Besides, "could be alot more with good development", well there goes that idea
