You know what, (frank) that. They had been going through the motions after game 1 of this series. You can blame Bryz all you want, but even if that goal hadn't of gone in, they would've still struggled to score a 2nd goal.
- feelingkettle

I'm not blaming him at all, they did go through the motions majority of the series, and hung the goaltender out to dry numerous times. I was just referencing the soft goal is all. Bryzgalov made a bunch of great saves in the playoffs, because he does that doesn't excuse him when he lets in a softie.

The problem is, the remaining goalies in the playoffs also made those incredible saves but did not have the random lows.

2 rounds left for those guys to have some lousy games

That is true. And I believe he will be more consistent in the future. As will the rest of the team.

I thought they carried the play in the 2nd period, and generated more chances than the previous 3 games. I don't think they packed it in after that goal
- eayost

I thought they were flat after that goal. They didn't generate many scoring chances. It wouldn't have mattered anyway most likely. The Devils won't have an easier playoff series than this one in a long time. Look at the Bruins last year, three 7 games series, and the sweep of the Flyers.

Devils struggled bigtime with an awful Panthers team, and I highly doubt they will beat the Rangers.

I remember cringing every time the puck was shot at Boucher. With Bryz, there's always a chance for him to make an amazing save. He really played great tonight after the 2nd goal.
- feelingkettle

was game4 or 5 of the buff series when he gave up 2 horrendous goals in the first 130 of the game.......it was that type of play that Ed said never again. we didnt witness any near that level of ineptitude this playoff season

Playing what way against the Pens? Aggressive? That's supposedly their style. If they can't sustain that through multiple playoff rounds because they get tired, they better find a new style.
- eayost

Every game last round felt like a game 7.
I just don't think its realistic to expect to play like that and be able to sustain it through 4 rounds.

It's ridiculous to say that the Panthers were an awful team. They are a playoff team, and therefore a good team. 8 seeds beat 1 seeds. It's the playoffs. Every team is dangerous and a threat. A series like this reminds people of that.

The flyers lost this series along the boards, for their dominance against the Pens in winning the battles along the walls, they got killed by the Devils just the same. I wonder if a little over confidence crept in after the Pens, and give the Devils a ton of credit they thoroughly outworked them along the walls.

Anyway, we are stuck with him, better or worse. And we are stuck with Briere. I think something needs to happen with Briere's line in playoffs. Its just too much of a feast or famine situation for me.

I agree completely that that's where the Flyers were outplayed the most. They also had trouble with Brodeur's handling of the puck, which took away a ton of the the Flyers forecheck. In some ways the Pens series was too easy. Too wide open. It wasn't playoff Hockey, where you have to battle for every inch.

Yes, I agree with you. Watching the games no question Bryzgalov was better than last year's goalie carousel, but the statistics were worse. GAA and save %. People who didn't watch the games will point this out.

thatshy i said on this board a few days ago, bryz is giong to get poop on no matter what. he becae a taget this year and that perception is going to snowball. like eagles fans throwing snowballs at santa. its lazy and it makes an easy copout

Whoever ultimately wins plays like that all playoffs. That's what it takes. One of the teams will do it, and that's the team that goes furthest.

I have no problem being stuck with Bryzgalov. I think he's a very good Goalie. There is that negative with Briere. But I think if you play better team defense, you can offset some of that.

Agreed. Fair points all around. The inability to protect leads, and lack of focus in their own end is mind boggling to me. Losing 6 of 7 playoff games when scoring first simply defies logic.

I think teams that win almost always have one series in the first two rounds they get through without playing like that.
Much like the devils just did.
I have no factual basis for that.

Also, I think game 1 against the Devils game them a false sense of security. The Devils played a double OT game 7 two days before, and the Flyers absolutely dominated them after the first period. I think the mindset was this is going to be easy and give the Devils all the credit they put the work in to change the series around. I fully expect the young guys to learn from this experience and be better next year.

No look behind the back cross ice passes in your own zone also defies logic.

I think if you can make a series shorter it certainly can help, and will cut down on possible injuries, but I think you need to play hard the entire time to make those series' shorter. I thought they were just playing their up tempo system against Pitt. I don't think there was anything more than that in that series.

I'm not. It was a lost Season for JVR. I said it before he even came back. To expect him to play at a high level after missing that much time. Not realistic. He had numerous serious injuries. Let him have a healthy Season, hopefully, and then see what he can do.
