You never know confidence can turn things around in a hurry. - stveshdy
I felt different this AM than I did last night. Win lose or draw this team showed me a lot this year. We expected very little from them but came to realize they were capable of greater things than I had expected.
I'd look for a really big game out of Talbot and Schenn here. To me that seems like the guys who will be asked to fill G's shoes. I think the team wants nothing more than to give G one more shot. As you've all put it, one shift at a time.
I think the key to tonights game and the series is to score a lot quickly. Get Broduer pulled early. Send a message that we are still a high powered team. Give the guys confidence again. A 3-2 squeeker isn't going to help moral much.... but a 6-4 game could...
I freaking hope so -- by no means do I want them to lose, I want them to come back and obviously win the next 3 -- and yes, I'll be watching and yelling and screaming like always, just my confidence is at a 2 out of 10 -- game 4 my confidence was a 9. - flyersfan51
The Flyers haven't played well the last three games so it makes sense that people aren't confident. However when you look at this Flyers team you know they have the ability to get it together and win.

I agree with this entire post. This was supposed to be a team chemistry building year and a "rebuilding" year and they made it to the 2nd round and possibly more. that's pretty damn good -- I am a little disappointed that Lavy hasn't made any adjustments and reading comments seems like he has a vacation set already for thursday.
For so many years I can remember us getting absolutely destroyed in elimination games. A lot by Buffalo. I really hope the team keeps it competitive until the end even if they don't win. Losing Roo I think is the fatal blow but I hope that I am wrong. - Hextall271
it appears as though i'm in the minority
but it really seems that there are a few teams that really scout the he!! out of the Flyers. New Jersey and the Rangers are the first two teams that come to mind. That's why they play so well against them. I put a lot of emphasis on the coaching staff at this point of the game. Yes, they know each other well enough so that's where coaching comes in...what changes are you going to do to offset the other team.
As Bill pointed out the better team and/or the team that makes their own breaks have won each and every game. At the same time the Flyers have had their chances.
As for the G suspension, as I blew up twitter yesterday. The suspension did not surprise. Not once did I say the hit didn't deserve it. My point was the NHL has made a true mockery of it's own officiating and suspension clown court.
Either way...
with G out, they may play a better defensive game. That's what I'm thinking at this time. The game can be won, do the little things right and good things will happen.
I know it was most likely beaten to death yesterday...
But if you make the right call on Marty, there would not be the out burst of G. This is where the officiating crew needs to be accountable. I know missed calls happen but when it's right in front of there faces, it's bothersome. Action or non Action versus very bad reaction. Two wrongs do not make it right.
I truly believe Shanaclown's position is more cut and dry then what every former player/gm tries to make it out to be. You cross the line you get suspended. Don't act like a shrink and input anger or feelings. A rule is a rule. No star treatment. This is where a third party needs to be hired, not a former player or GM or anyone else who is/has been associated with a team.
I feel like tonight is the breakout. All the cliches are correct. Can't win 3 in 1, one shift at a time, etc etc. What really needs to happen is HIT HIT HIT. I haven't seen one clean rattling shot by Flyers this series that equals to the 100s we saw vs. Pittsburgh.
Whether you have a disdain for your opponent or not, that's they way they have won this year. Outhustle, outwork, outHIT. If we come out banging, I like our chances.
On selfish note, I'm just now used to my beard and I'm not ready to shave it yet. Let's go boys!!!
Flyers could have seen this coming since game one when NJ was totally outplayed with the exception of the first period and still managed to go to overtime.
Even though NJ lost i think they gained a lot of confidence from that one.
Should be a helluva game tonight, let's hope it's not decided by a bad call.
I'd take Lilja or Gus over a rusty Meszaros right now. - bradleyc4
Of course if he was still hurting or would be a detriment to the team I'd rather do as you say. He's been skating and practicing for a while though, so I thought maybe he could be ready. If the Flyers keep winning games, I'd imagine you'd have to pick a game to work him into at some point.

I always expected good things from this team. I heard others say this is like a rebuild year, and we should be happy just to make the playoffs. Said that we shouldnt go after anyone at the TDL. I said the complete opposite. This team needs to win now. Pronger is done, and Timonen is 1 year away, with no possible #1's to fill their shoes... This team is built to win now, or next year. That is the best window for them. Soon they will have to start trading some of thier offense for defenders.

That worked well for Pittsburgh right?
Just win. 1-0, 8-7, whatever. Keep the season going, and put the pressure on NJ.

yes, where ever the Flyers end up this year, I will be happy in how far they have come. I have enjoyed watching this team this year with all the youth and cannot help but to be happy with the way this team has been put together. If the Flyers don't win the Cup, it's time to move on and enjoy something else. I will have no rooting fan interest in any other team.
You know the sports world is ph...cked up when Bettman's Coyotes are in the semi's with the Kings. The Sixers will win a round in the playoffs and the Phillies are on a downslide.
WIP said this morning the Devils just turned over 200 tickets for tonights game. Guess they want the "Well" to look like thier arena... Anyway the Flyers have extra tickets now, so call or go to website.

I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our icey home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of devilry, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.
We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in Newark,
we shall fight on the blue line and the neutral zone,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our arena, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the boards,
we shall fight on the faceoff circles,
we shall fight in the defensive zone and (hopefully) the offensive zone,
we shall fight in the benches;
we shall never surrender.

Some old players in the video but you get the point.

I think a high scoring game gives them a false sense. I would much rather they win a 2-1 squeaker. Though it wont do much for my heart. If they scored that much on the Devils tonight you can be sure it wont happen again. The Flyers need to prove they can win a close lowscoring playoff type game. THAT is what will give them confidence.
Winning a high scoring run and gun game I think just lulls them in to a false sense of security. Now if they win 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 or something like that where they play good defense, then I would be happy with that. But giving up another 4 goals will only tell me that they are postponing the inevitable.

As long as they win, I don't care how it's done. Staying alive is the bottom line. Win pretty or win ugly, just win.

It kinda already has been -- the Giroux suspension.

Its all about gaining confidence. Flyers have to play smart and make good decisions with the puck. They have nothing to lose at this point so they have to come out buzzing and I think they will with the home crowd cheering them on.

If they play a great game and lose, it doesn't matter. They need to get a win, any kind of win.
