it's not the devils' pressure, they're playing at what would be the flyers' b+ game, flyers are only capable of their c+ game. basically the flyers don't have enough in the tank and i've just come to accept that. if they weren't that banged up they'd have played harder. lava demands it, they want to win a championship.
- flyerscup2011

Even if the Flyers were playing at a top level. This would still be a 6 or 7 game Series that could go either way. This Devils team is far better then a lot of Flyers fans give them credit for.

Shanahan has the toughest job in the NHL right now. He has players, owners, coaches, and GMs wanting players to be suspended, but don't want Shanahan suspending them long enough to make statement if they are star players. He started off on the right foot with Wisnewski, but you know damn right he had complaints coming in left and right for the length to a star player.

Giroux's actions show frustration which carried on into the hit. The frustration doesn't give him any right to target Zubrus' hit. He clearly came up with the shoulder primarily making contact with the head of Zubrus. It was a sideways hit from the blindside, it wasn't like a shoulder to chest which also made contact with the head. Whether you like it or not, the call should be made. I agree with you on the precedent, but he has to start somewhere and you have to hope this is where it begins.

- _Zippy_

Shanahan has a tough job, but only because they really make up the punishment as they go along. If they had a set number of games for each infraction/repeat offense/no injury, etc, there wouldn't be much wondering about how many games for this, or why didn't this guy get that.

Until they start treating all players equal, his job will be hard.

I'm a Briere fan, but I;d like $6.5mm in cap room...trouble is, he's got the NMC.
- Jsaquella

I am aware of the NMC. I should have been clear that this is the perfect state. Briere doesn't really dominate, even when he scores. He is a nice player, but not a 6.5m player. Really, a 6.5m player to me is a Chara or Stamkos or something in that neighborhood.

Who replaces Carle? I don't get that joke. Carle is to Pronger as Seidenberg is to Chara. A nice player when paired with an elite D-man. Its like a baked potato and a nice steak. No one gives a crap about the potato without the steak.

Exactly, we've seen what happens when Lilja and Gusty are together, god forbid in the second period (long change) and we panic change a game/series away over it.
JVR is not a 3rd liner, shouldn't get those mins and will never flourish there. He's a talented kid who needs a change of scenery. Send him, Bourdon/Gusty, Wellwood and a bevy of 1sts to NSH for Weber. Do it monkeys. Do it.

Yeah, and after David Pile recovers from laughing at that offer, what do you do?

Carle has been the Flyers most effective defensemen, at least in terms of shots for and shots allowed, in this series, by a pretty fair stretch.

I don't think trading JVR is the answer. Actually, there is no reason to do so. He probably shouldn't be playing now.

Here is my protected list: Grossman Coby Timmo Mezaros Giroux Harts Schenn Voracek Simmonds Read Couts Talbot JVR Wellwood Read

Yeah but how many times has his number skated in juuuust a second too late on the cross ice one timer play they've beaten us on what feels like 100x?

A few too many for my taste.

He's second to Coburn right now to me. Then Timmo, then the foggy ghost of Grossman, then Mesz, then Lilja and Gusty. Yes. Mesz doing nothing is better than those two right now.

Pekka Rinne and Anders Lindback.

Getting Shea Weber is a pipe dream.

My guess? It'd take JvR, Schenn or Couturier, and a couple of 1st rounders.

Yeah, what kind of idiot (who didn't spend all day in here) would think a devils fan saying he agrees with the suspension is a troll. What a Moron I am....

that's why throwing "troll" around is possibly more trollish than just using the tools at hand.

Perhaps you are a big fan of the potato bar, with extra chives and cheddar cheese.

Carle is an ok player and nothing more.

So to speak, we won't be getting our steak, so I'd rather have the potato than starve. Or, in other words, if we're losing Carle, Holmgren ought to get us some baby back ribs, or at least a big bucket full of hot wings.

He's also quite a bit better than what the Flyers have on hand to replace him. Want Erik Gustafsson playing 22 minutes a night next year? I don't. That means you either re-sign Carle or replace him via a trade or free agency. Either way you're going to trade significant assets or take on a sizeable cap hit.
