NYI will trade up if they see something extremely valuable to their club soon and that will make immediate impact. Snow is a pretty conservative GM like Tamby in EDM. If Snow considers Yakupov is that important since Parenteau is hitting UFA, he may be tempted, also considering Nino is still taking time.

I think their school of thought is that they can still sign PA. But yea, definitely always a possibility they'll move up if they really have a hard-on for one specific player. While I agree that he's definitely the best player in the draft, I still don't think that the gap in talent between Yakupov and the guys that will be available at #4 is big enough to warrant us overpaying for the #1.

First off
JT>hall

But by all means hall is a great player
If I had to rank last 5 first picks it'd be
Stam, JT, Hall, RNH, Kane

- Danformo

I'd say RNH is ahead of Hall. He's shown some great things for an 18 years old rookie. If it wasn't for his injury he would've ended the season with +/- 70 pts

Indeed, could be anyone between Dumba, Trouba, and Reinhart (Edmonton itself is in love with that kid). I believe as well CBJ would take Murray... Galchenyuk ahas a strong possibility as well tho.
- Boosinicka

The flyers are getting Reinhart according to MY source. PH and staff like the kid and may have to move up to the 8th spot. Haven't heard who they may be willing to offer in addition to that pick.
Rumor has it that they will trade for Rusty Fedotenko to use as a piece of the deal.

I thnk that moulson and the 4th for the first, but another player from the oilers would have to go back... omark maybe? somebody in the 2-3 line range. trading a top line wing + a potential franchise d-man would take a tad bit more that a potential franchise winger

Yakupov and Tavares would be dirty, would cost a chunk though. They do seem to have quite a few young guys proving themselves on the blueline though.

no no Hamonic and the 4th

if the oilers had something esle on the d end to send back, maybe... but the islanders and the oilers in same boat, neither can afford to give up D. do the oilers have a d-man with some potential to go back the other way? i think this only happens if the oilers take a winger and the 4th. the winger subs for yak and the oil take a top d prospect

To NYI: 1st overall pick and PRV
To Edm: 4th overall pick Hamonic and Niederreiter

Hall has 2 NHL seasons and RNH only has 1. Hall should be way ahead of RNH but I continue to say he isn't. I'm not saying Hall is a bad player, they're both great, but to me RNH is better at 18 years old than Hall is at 19

Yakupov is undoubtedly the best player in the draft, but I hate to break it to you...he's not Stamkos/Tavares level talent. So trading you Hamonic or Strome does not interest us.

Why would you say that?

Holy overpayment batman. The flyers need a big power forward type and a stud dman to groom why would they want yakamov scmakamov?

Your right..let me rephrase. Going by what I have seen and read, he won't be on the level of them. Great player? Yes. Guy you build a team around? No. Guy I would start trading the future cornerstone of our defense for? Definitely not.

Not a Russian hater by any means. Also, I'm 100% positive that Stamkos' 105pts in 61 games in his draft year are better than Yakupov's 69pts in 42 games.

- eichiefs9

Remember last years draft? Everybody said RNH wasn't even close to the top talent in the previous draft (Hall/Seguin)... Flash forward 1 year, and a lot of people have RNH ranked above Hall and Seguin. Bottom line... Nobody knows half as much as they think they do.

RNH at 18 is better than 90% of NHL players.

Calm down with the question marks. Yes, Strome. Strome and the 4th for the 1st and Musil is a fair deal. You don't seem to get that Sidney Crosby is not available in this draft. That's why I don't think a deal gets made at the draft. No one is going to give up much to move up in this draft because it's a relatively weak one. Good for EDM; they can get that elsewhere. Are the Islanders supposed to care about EDM when dealing with them? Oh, I guess since EDM needs D, we'll give them Hamonic now.
- isles10289

The point you're missing is after Yak there is a large drop off in talent level. He is the clear cut number one player.

Personally I wouldn't touch the trade you propose. Edmonton will happily take the number one player. GM's have a good idea what the asking price will be prior to contacting Edmonton.

Yeah they're similar, but hall has had help the first two years
JT composed 43% of the teams goals this year with assists or goals.. I think oilers would be better off without hall then the isles without JT

Plus JT is a center, and I value centers more

the oilers own blogger on this sight had questions about which player to take. (yuk or yak). nobody knows just how much better or whether he's better yak will be. look how many drafts have happened and the later picks went on to much much better careers. bottom line... oilers should keep the pick... if the expect a huge payment for it, they are deluding themselves. and other teams shouldn't ecpect to get the pick for cheap... its like two players one uping each other in poker... eventually they both need to stand and see where the cards fall
