Forsberg? It's Murray or Galchenyuk. Forsberg will be outside the top 5
- Boosinicka

Was Galchenyuk not injuried most of last season? could make him slip a little in the draft.

I proposed this a couple weeks ago.

And the status is the same as it was then: laughable. I don't think people get what Travis Hamonic means to the Islanders, and how good he really is. I don't think I would trade Hamonic for the first pick straight up, let alone adding the 4th pick. At 21 years old, this kid plays top line minutes (22:26 per game this season) against the other team's best players every night. While doing this, he managed to be a +6 player on a team that was -52 for the season. He's not going anywhere; he'll be an Islander for a long time.

And as it was a couple weeks ago, that's a ridiculous proposal to move up 3 spots.

What else would you have on your roster that would interest EDM......You have no defense either, or goaltending.

My best guess for draft day

1-Yaku
2-Murray
3-Gally
4-Grigs
5-Forsberg

- Symba007

its going to depend on trades and team needs. some teams might want to move up to # 5 to get the best d-man available.

Ok, and what else of worth is on the Islanders besides Tavares??? Strome?? EDM needs a goalie or Defense.

I know that he's only 19, but MY GOD... What was up with Niederreiter this year? -29 and 1 point in 55 games played... Was he just incredibly unlucky, or did he just have a terrible year? Or did they barely play him?
- laughs2907

A mix of all of that. He unfortunately got stuck with Marty Reasoner and a rotating door at RW on the fourth line all year. Obviously, some of that is Nino not quite playing well, but he also wasn't put in a position to succeed.

In hindsight, he probably should have gone back to Portland, but in training camp, the Isles felt another year in juniors was counterproductive, and since AHL wasn't an option, NHL it was. I think he's got at least half a season in the AHL ahead of him in 2012-13.

I never said someone else would be more of a fair trade or that I want the Islanders to trade up. The fact remains though, trading Hammer to move up 3 spots is absolutely atrocious. Keeping Hamonic and taking one of the guys available to us at 4 is exponentially better than trading our only good defenseman and getting Yakupov.

Calm down with the question marks. Yes, Strome. Strome and the 4th for the 1st and Musil is a fair deal. You don't seem to get that Sidney Crosby is not available in this draft. That's why I don't think a deal gets made at the draft. No one is going to give up much to move up in this draft because it's a relatively weak one. Good for EDM; they can get that elsewhere. Are the Islanders supposed to care about EDM when dealing with them? Oh, I guess since EDM needs D, we'll give them Hamonic now.

Agreed, but if you guys want YAK, Hamonic might be what it takes... I think Hamonic is great but the 1st overall will take alot

I think this would be the case should Galchenyuk not be available at 5. I could see Burke trading down 2-3 spots to take Faksa.

Howson apparently loves Forsberg, and Forsberg has been mentioned as a top pick candidate for over a year now. I can't see them picking a guy who missed the entire season when so much is on the line with this pick, and we all know the issues with Grigorenko's work ethic. I think if CLB passes on Forsberg, he will drop to 5 or 6, but I could easily see him going at 2.

So do the Islanders, which is why I doubt it would be Hamonic.
- PeteM

I would move anyone but Hamonic, JT or Strome plus #4 overall for #1 overall.

Forsberg seems like a Burke-type player to me, although you guys do need a center.

Kinda reminded me of Paajarvi... Luckily they were able to send him down to the A to work on his game. He may need another season down there...

And the Islanders actually have two really good goaltenders in the AHL in Kevin Poulin (who Patrick Roy raved about) and Anders Nilsson, who was terrific down the stretch on Long Island this year.

Exactly- that's actually a very similar situation. Hopefully with some A time, Niederreiter will be fine, just like Paajarvi will hopefully be fine. It's hard to remember how young these guys really are sometimes.

nino + 4th for the 1st overall, would that be a decent deal? Overpayment by the isles but they will have to overpay to get the 1st

Eh I'd take Nino and Murray over Yakupov, I think. The Oilers would have to add something in.

Then we don't wan't "Yak." Again, this isn't Crosby/Ovechkin/Stamkos. If EDM is demanding Hamonic, then they can have fun with their first overall pick.

Just has the exact same pp/g coming out of junior as that slouch Stamkos is all..

With better international #'s...

But nowhere near the numbers of Brett Maclean.
