I think the Rags would do a much better job against the Devils then the Flyers.

My house league team could at least dump the puck properly.

I only caught the tail end of the CSN post game ... did Bryz say he was happy with his play or something?

still could happen.

Not with all the bust rookies, aging dinosaurs and brain dead defensemen on this team.

Not sure if anyone has already pointed this out, but it appears to me the Devils are doing a lot of subtle picks that are borderline interference. These "pick" plays slow down Flyer pursuit of the puck and generates time, space, and speed for the Devils. Not sure if this is a normal/legal thing, but I've seen it more this series than ever before. Anyone else seeing what I've seen?

the flyers just cannot make the adjustments with Lavy's system, they look lost

If your saying that it appears that Carle isn't making an effort. I completely disagree. And as far as expecting more, I expect more from a lot of players. I expected more from the entire team in this Series then they've gotten so far. But let's focus on one player. Because that's how an entire team get's outplayed. Due to just one player's play.
- MJL

I've already called out JVR and Simmonds if you'd actually take a moment and read some of my other posts that don't have the name Carle in them.

As a core player he's expected to step up his game and help settle things. Instead he's doing the opposite. And his compete level needs to be higher.

Pathetic, and unacceptable.
- PLindbergh31

You have a right to feel that way. That display of hockey tonight wasn't very good imo. That was one of the worse games I've seen the Flyers play this year.

Let's put it this way. Flyers have not shown ANYTHING in the last 3 games that shows that they have a chance of turning this thing around.

But your being blind to Carle's flaws is no better than blaming him for everything, which I'm not sure anybody is doing. You seem to be consciously missing some of the finer points of the debate, namely that Carle is not playing like a top D-man, nor is he playing like someone who deserves a big payday this off-season.

Regardless, the Flyers are getting out-played across the board and it's pretty pathetic.

tons. and lots of hooking. if they aren't going to call it then the flyers should do the same instead of rolling over and dying.

Lavy's system requires 100% effort and winning puck battles on dump ins. The system would work if the players executed it. The devils aren't doing anything special. They are almost beating us at our own game. Aside from Brodeur handling the puck a lot, all they are doing is out working us in the offensive zone.

Along with those two I really look at a guy like Briere.

He has scored the goals but been brutal defensively.

I dont think the Flyers intended for this to happen but it did. The Devils look like the hungerier team. They are dominating every single phase of hockey.

Here's the quote:

"This team and it's young forwards have shown that they can play solidly defensively. By it's very nature a team made up of young players is inconsistent at times."

Clearly you are making a correlation between youth and what you are seeing today.

- PT21

Clearly I was responding to the post insinuating that the Flyers young player won't ever be good defensively. And as the reply states, they have shown in the past that they can be. And the part about inconsistency, is referring to developing young players as a process. And it's not an overnight process,. same with a team as a whole that made major off season moves. Well that isn't a one season process either.

I don't intend to argue with you, but imo the Flyers have had a problem with backchecking since after Hitch left. They as an organization just don't stress that enough, and their coaches have not stressed that enough. And NJ has progressively discovered that if you forecheck like gangbusters and keep the puck in, defensive breakdowns are going to happen. They have managed to put their knife in that chink, and prised it open and now it is a gaping wound. I don't think honestly it has much to do with youthfulness.

- PT21

Ken Hitchcock is a defensive first Coach. And his team just got swept out of the playoffs. Laviolette is a puck pressure offense first Coach. Regardless of whatever philosophy you play with, you have to do the little things well to win. Such as winning puck battles, puck races, etc. The Devils are winning all of those battles and are dictating play.

He has.

Unfortunately for him next season he will face even more pressure.

It will be a big year for JVR and Bryzgalov next season. Have to think its JVR's last shot.

Bryz has been better. Brodeur could put a lounge chair in his crease with all the work he see's.

The entire teams' compete level needs to be better. Have this team get a forecheck going and play in the other teams end for a while, and pressure their defense with a constant forecheck. And see how good NJ defenseman look, and how much better ours would look. This is a team game. And the Flyers are getting beat team wide. Man to man. I see mistakes made by Coburn, Grossmann, Timonen, etc. Carle has made mistakes. Everyone on the team has.
