However the hope is to have him be the #1 d-man again and lets just re-sign Carle for more money and hope for better results.

Being positive is one thing.

Accepting what is happening instead of looking to improve isn't a good plan.

When have the Flyers as an Organization not tried to improve the team?

the best thing is 1 more loss and we never have to see Matt Freakin Carle a flyers uniform again he is a waste of a roster spot...... i think this team left there balls some where back in Pittsburgh poor fore-checking poor puck management just poor play over all this team dosnt deserve to win the way they are playing
- flyer186

Yeah, I'm fine with Carle going, especially if he thinks he is due a big raise.

The Flyers forgot how to hit and they forgot how to shoot.

I agree. This game and the Series is definitely all on Matt Carle.
- MJL

I wonder what team is gonna massively overpay for him, hopefully not this one.

None of the games have been slow games. They have been hard fast paced games by the Devils. They move the puck fast and efficiently. And they are strong on the puck and the forecheck. The strategy is the complete opposite of slowing down the game.
- MJL

the only slowness was on the Flyers end, not the Devils.

The Flyers were on a motor scooter while the Devils were driving the Lamborghini.

Whatever team that get's him is going to be getting a very good player. I hope he remains a Flyer.

What's all the complaining about. The flyers are mostly young players with a mix of older role players as forwards. They are spent mentally.
They weren't beating NY so no need to freak out.
So who does anyone think they should draft?

- bird_dog

The Flyers aren't such a young team.

Teaching players how to "compete" doesnt come with maturity.

The d-core is not young by any means.

That was a spectacular fail. Thanks for the adjustment lava. Bravo

There were adjustments?

Looked like a pick up game team

He's only a -3 in these playoffs, last year he was -8. Steadily improving. That's what you want to see.

Certainly not all on him, but aside from his goal, he's having a mostly brutal series. Looks very slow, plays hot potato with the puck too much and has been way off on his angling. Of all the D men I've noticed him the most. In a bad way.

This is upsetting, of course--but let's not forget where this team was at Game 1 of the season--now we're what? Game 92 or 93?

There were many people who were ready to hang Homer in effigy for giving away so much offense, and yet here we are. We weren't a Cup contending team at the start of the season, we made drastic changes to our roster, we lost our captain, and a few more to injuries for long stretches--these guys battled, were the comeback kids, and knocked off the Penguins in six games.

It's easy to be pissed at them right now because of the way they are playing. But let's not forget the accomplishments they made this season.

Just in time to start the "debate".

I haven't seen any adjustments to the devils play. I feel like we've watched the same game 3 times in a row now. The devils look charged up and the flyers look slow and tired. The shots on goal tell you everything. In really not sure what they can do at this point other than step up the effort. Doesn't matter what your strategy is when you're getting beat to the puck.

I'd like to see them attack the middle of the ice more. Clearly dumping it in isn't working. There seem to be 3 devils on the puck every time it's loose with 1 flyer going after it.

- funmaster18

it's been groundhog day. the flyers have no answer for entry into the zone. if they dump it, they get outnumbered and lose it, or brodeur gets it and makes a play, or they try to skate it in and make a play a the line where it gets broken up. nothing they've done has worked. they've panicked with the puck for 3 straight games, and have had a lot of voyeurs gliding around. devils anticipating everything, skating to everything, outnumbering everything. complete domination.

Certainly lessons such as the ones that this team is learning right now, comes with maturity. This is part of the maturing process. And the Flyers for the most part are a young team.

They have tried - but other than picking up someone like Grossmann, I would say they often choose players based on what the player has done rather than how the player fits in.

Look at how NJ has managed to mold Kovalchuk. Is this the same Kovalchuk who was a defensive liability in Atlanta?

It's not looking good. It seems as though the devils have their number. Getting outplayed in almost every aspect of the game.

If we're not such a young team, then why did we have so many rookies suit up and make such an impact?

True rocko.

In no way are they done yet, even if it looks that way. That has to be remembered.

However I would think management to be stupid if they roll out the same lineup next season and hope for better.

The forwards as a group, as young as they may be are below average in terms of defensive zone coverages.
