Add another pick, another prospect, a roster player or a combination. I could care less. Aside from JT there is no one in our organization that comes close to Nail. Just get it.
Done!

I think we are farther away then most people think from finishing this Rebuild. Nail could be huge for us.

Really? What have we got to lose by taking a chance on this kid? We arent going anywhere soon. Except maybe Quebec

I'd get edmonton on the phone and offer them the 4th overall pick, and one of de haan or niederreiter. Edmonton is gonna need defense since they have solid depth at forward with Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Hemsky, and gagner. They have nobody on that blue line aside from whitney who can contribute both offensively and defensively. If i'm the isles, you move heaven and earth to get yakupov. You have him on a line with either tavares or strome, your scoring problems are basically solved.
- The Iceman

If Edmonton needs defense, they're certainly not going to get it from the Islanders unless your talking about Hamonic and I'm not doing that.

Probably the same amount of people that have seen Kirill Petrov play.

First overall picks are USUALLY first overall for a reason. Maybe he's a bust? That usually doesn't happen but who knows? I'd take those odds if the price were right. On the same note we all know the price wouldn't be right and part of the Oiler's demands would definitely be a dman(I have a feeling the proposal brought up earlier would be scoffed at, maybe DeHaan, Nino and our first and thats a big maybe) and we have nobody really they'd be interested in besides Hamonic and that's not happening.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out in Nassau. We can blame the politicians and governors or whoever we can think of. There is nothing we can do to make them stay in Nassau. As we know how Kathleen Murray feels about Islanders. It is no way in hell the will remain in here unless we have a new owner who is willing to pay for a new arena and own the land. I strongly feel that the only way is that we can see Islanders remain in the state of New York is to play at Barclays for good or build an arena next to Mets Stadium. That would make sense rationally. I know that I would go to games more often in Queens than Brooklyn. As we realize that the population in Brooklyn matches the number of population in Long Island alone. I just hope that the name of Islanders remain the same in Brooklyn. If they change it to Brooklyn Islanders then God knows that it will be a kick in the sack.

i agree with that...i happen to think nail will be fine, i originally responded to SCLI who was willing to give up the farm for the guy...and very much agree that hamonic is just as untouchable as jt on this team

Well I don't think we should trade for Nails. We don't need offense. We need defense. We can trade for Subban and get Dumba. That would definitely improve our team.

Streit Subban
Hamonic Macdonald
Dumba Ness/Donovan/????

I dont want to resign Parentau and get someone else. I know we can do well without him!!!!

--first they have to build "Mets Stadium"

-- As of the 2010 census, the population in Nassau County was 1,339,532; Brooklyn has 2,504,700 (as of 2010 census)...even putting that aside, what brooklyn has that LI doesnt even come close to is better/more public transportation and more centralized that LI

His proposal isn't that far fetched IMO. I'd be willing to part with our first, Dehaan, and either Nino or a prospect. The problem is DeHaan is not that highly touted as you can tell by how many people are willing to dump him, of course that may change. We just don't have the prospects to make that trade happen and Snow wouldn't want to give up what they needed in return(I'd hope not).

For all we know they may not even take Nail. This may mean absolutely nothing, but:

Chris Johnston @reporterchris

Attention #oilers fans: Kevin Lowe was just gushing about Ryan Murray. Says he saw him play a "flawless" game in Everett recently.

It was quite clear on draft day.
- Lahey

The Islanders had 13 picks in the 2008 draft. They knew it was a long shot with Petrov. They took a shot on the guy b/c they could. In that draft they got a bunch of NHL players... so it still was a decent draft for them as a whole.
1st round Bailey (save the hate)
2nd round Trivino, Ness, Hamonic
3rd round Toews, Niemi, Petrov,
4th round Matt Donovan and David Ullstrom
5th round Matt Martin and Kevin Poulin
6th round Spurgeon and Dibo..

Bottom line is Matt martin, Ullstrom and Hamonic are very good NHL players. Bailey is IMO a good NHL player too (most will argue that point). Matt Donovan, Poulin are very solid prospects... .and the rest are either busts or Projects (Petorv fitting into the latter category). This was a flyer pick.. just like the other Kirill was a year later in 3rd round. It may be a homerun.. more than likely not .. but the upside was worht the shot.

Just to refresh your memory. Three picks in the 2008 3rd rd:

@ #66 David Toews (given to the BlackHawks)

@ #72 Jyri Niemi (traded to Rangers for 6th rd pick)

@ # 73 Krill Petrov (signed contract with KHL)

So in retrospect, the 2008 3rd rd was a complete waste for the NY Islanders. Could have gotten similar results by having that Asian Kid pick names out of a hat!

Are we on to something here????

- SCLI

not being fair to only bring up 3d round.. when they go Ullstrom, Matt Martin and Poulin in later rounds.

Petrov was still a great pick, low risk-high reward. Most teams 3rd round picks never amount to a thing, it's not some anomaly that a few of the Islanders 3rd rounders didn't. Henrique was the only quality player to come out of that entire round.

9 of 13 draft picks from 2008 have played NHL games actually. Pretty good if you ask me. Only 8 for the Isles (Spurgeon).

And actually all picks, except one (Anders Lee), from Tavares' draft year have played at least one NHL game too.

Randomly throwing this out there..Teuvo Teravainen is going to make one GM look like a genius and a whole bunch of others look stupid this year.

Even if they want Murray, they would/could still take Nail and trade him to whomever takes Murray and possibly get something more out of the deal - a high 2nd rd pick.... or to another team for an established Dman. Seems like it's a good problem for Edmonton to to have.

That Nino and our 4th pick is not as crazy as it sounds. They get the D-man they want (Murray with the 4th pick).. they get a big Forward prospect in Nino.. and I am guessing the Isles throw another pick in to get it done.

Arena- To me the Isles are obviously going to Quebec. If you can't read the writing on the wall here u are not looking.
Facts:
1.Isles tried for 10 years to get a new arena done in Long Island and couldn't
2. their lease runs out in 2015
3. Wang is stockpiling prospects and backloading sallaries
4. Quebec new 400 mill arena is done in 2015 that was started this year

Every decision Wang is making is keeping costs down with an eye on the future. This team will be GREAT in 2 years.. so Wang can sell it to quebec at the Maximum profit possible so he can recoup some of his losses. Barclays may be where they are for a few years... but stop kidding yourself if you think this team is staying here...

They need a defenseman, but taking anyone other than Nail would be a mistake. He's easily the best player in the draft, unless they get some serious value for that pick, I'd think they were nuts.

If Betteman already told Wang to get ready to sell the team in 2014 and told Quebec when the Arena was done they would have a NHL team available.. do you think he would write about it in the Paper so no one would attend and Islander game for 3 years? To me this deal was already done in back rooms and EVERY move being made is to fulfill that plan.

Nail would end up costing you Hammy. That could be a bigger lose than any other player to this team. He is the future on this d line..

The Russian scare me these days. It is too easy for them to say hell with this and go back to Russia, to a larger contract and leave the NHL team high and dry.
