Its a stop gap thats it.

To Where? I don't doubt Ratner is kicking himself a bit by giving in to a NBA only design so they could start earlier. Had that building been built to house a NHL rink it would not even be a 1 minute conversation, the Islanders should play there. Either way, maybe small renovations can be done to fix the seating bowl a bit.

I can guarantee they could fit in at least 500 extra seats at The Barclay Center for hockey if they had too. But that's not where the money is. It's in the luxury suites and the Barclay Center has 90 of them compared to 40 at the Nassau Coliseum. Also, because of the close proximity of NYC free agents will look at playing for the Islanders. It looks like a win-win situation for the Islanders to me.

Article from BD Gallof regarding Brooklyn and the NYI:

Awesome read. I agree 100%. Lets see what the actual arrangement is in Brooklyn for the team before everyone starts buying into the nonsense that the arena won't "work for hockey". BKLYN baby! F Nassau County and its inept, corrupt politicians.

I'm the first one who'd be happy about it. On that note I don't think its a realistic option because of the seating. I've honestly only looked at the pics of the stadium but it just doesn't look like it would work unless serious renovations were made and the place was just built so that ain't happening. Hopefully I'm wrong. I'll be happy if they play anywhere, as long as they stay and are run properly. If this team continues to be managed the way it is I would almost be happier if they left and found a better home, its depressing seeing them this way.

Bklyn is no stop gap. It will be long term or it won't be at all. It makes no sense to make a major move like that "temporarily".

The worse that could happen with this is applying pressure on Nassau, the problem with that is that I really don't think Nassau gives a shat in any way? Who knows? Maybe the REAL threat of them leaving and the economic impact of that may make something happen one way or the other?

That might be the most reasonable offer I've seen. Not sure I'd do it though.

I'm really starting to like Yakupov

- Lahey
I'd get edmonton on the phone and offer them the 4th overall pick, and one of de haan or niederreiter. Edmonton is gonna need defense since they have solid depth at forward with Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Hemsky, and gagner. They have nobody on that blue line aside from whitney who can contribute both offensively and defensively. If i'm the isles, you move heaven and earth to get yakupov. You have him on a line with either tavares or strome, your scoring problems are basically solved.

That is what Wang is banking on at the moment.

As long as he owns the team (& that isnt changing any time soon) his first & foremost desire is a new arena in Nassau. It is what he was promised when he bought the team, it is what he always envisioned. Its what he is still dreaming of.

I'm no insider, I have no unique knowledge that anyone else does not have, nut I just can't see anything with an arena getting done in Nassau County. Nassau's politicians are inept. They are completely incapable of passing any legislation. The partisan gridlock in Nassau County, as well as the obstructuonist politicans in the TOH make it impossble to conduct business. Tjats whyNassau County, which is the highest taxed county in the country, is flat broke.

The county is broke. It can't pay for stamps without NIFA approval. Even if the idiotic politicians could get on the same page, they don't have the money to get anything done. Its going to take private dollars to get an arena built and nobody is lining up to build one. There is no incentive for a private developer to build a new arena for the county.

Most of all, I genuinely believe that the politicians, and most county residents for that matter, could care less if the isles left town.

Last sentence says it all, that's the main problem. If it were the eighties this wouldn't even be a debate. This team not being relevant and the negative tag team of Wang and Snow and the ridiculously horrible product they are trying to sell as a professional sports team is not helping their cause.

Its ridiculous, whats even more sad are the people that think the team is being managed properly. I don't think its just a difference of opinion anymore, its just common sense at this point.

I'm with you. In this day and age where you can watch all out of town games, keep up with the team on the internet, I wouldn't mind a great owner taking the team elsewhere and watching these kids develop properly. I guess deep in the back of my mind I feel like there's still a chance that can happen locally if this arena sideshow (or main event if you see it that way) gets resolved. Like somehow magically these guys will figure out how to run the organization properly when they no longer have to worry about local politics or where they will be in 3 years. The wallets will have to open up if they want a$$es in the seats. What good is a nice shiny new building if you're gonna ice a crap team? The place will still be empty.

Just to refresh your memory. Three picks in the 2008 3rd rd:

@ #66 David Toews (given to the BlackHawks)

@ #72 Jyri Niemi (traded to Rangers for 6th rd pick)

@ # 73 Krill Petrov (signed contract with KHL)

So in retrospect, the 2008 3rd rd was a complete waste for the NY Islanders. Could have gotten similar results by having that Asian Kid pick names out of a hat!

Are we on to something here????

- SCLI

Petrov was still a great pick, low risk-high reward. Most teams 3rd round picks never amount to a thing, it's not some anomaly that a few of the Islanders 3rd rounders didn't. Henrique was the only quality player to come out of that entire round.

Add another pick, another prospect, a roster player or a combination. I could care less. Aside from JT there is no one in our organization that comes close to Nail. Just get it.
Done!

I think we are farther away then most people think from finishing this Rebuild. Nail could be huge for us.

Really? What have we got to lose by taking a chance on this kid? We arent going anywhere soon. Except maybe Quebec

Edmonton is not trading us Yakupov, not happening. Plus you also forgot who our GM is, this guy isn't capable of making a trade. DeHaan is not some highly sought over prospect we have unfortunately. We'd have to give up a lot to get the first pick. I also agree that this rebuild is further away then most(on here that is, only on here anyone that I've met/know believes in this "rebuild")people think. In fact I believe its not going anywhere, stagnant.
