New Jersey is proving they are not only legitimate Stanley Cup contenders but possibly the favorite. Should both the Devils and Rangers advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, 5-on-5 play will likely be the difference in the series. The Devils would have to be favored in this respect as that Rangers offense doesn't scare anyone and they are not as deep across all four lines.

For the Panthers to compete and almost eliminate the Devils the way they did, they showed that not only did they belong in the playoffs while still in the infancy of their rebirth onto the NHL stage, but a lucky bounce in Game 7 and they might be a win away from the Eastern Conference Finals as well. Who knows what would have happened if Fleischmann had not broken his hand early in the series and Bergenheim fractured his foot early in Game 7.
