Jacques Lemaire as coach or is he done?
- Symba007

No way he ever coaches in Montreal again. Read somewhere he had pretty much as said so years ago.

The discussing Dudley leaving to go to the habs got a little silly on the leaf threads, they seem genuinely upset about losing Dudley. Not sure why? Not exactly Scotty Bowman.
- Prolific_Scorer

I suppose the biggest issue would be the timing of it.
I understand why the Habs would want someone who has been scouting this years draft class all year...at the same time I understand why Burke would have an issue with giving that up to the competition 6 weeks before the draft.

Wasn't he the GM of Atlanta?
- Oilhab

Yeah, that alone should be a warning.

Yeah, it makes sense that Burke would want him to stay with the leafs until after the draft, cant blame him on that really. However, is Dudley contractually obligated to do so? Read somewhere he had an out clause in that contract before the draft? Is it an ethics thing or an actual contractual agreement? Not sure how it will work out or how Dudley will be viewed by other execs around the league if he does indeed leave TO before the draft. In either case, the leaf fans will vilify him at every chance regardless of whether he waits til after the draft or not. Habs have lost plenty of coaches and management in the last few years to other teams, and good ones, not sure if it is the fact that they were hoping Dudley would be their next GM or it's an issue with the draft that upsets them so much.

And he worked with Bergevin for 5 years, building the Hawks Cup winning team.

At the same time, if you're Burke, would you really want him at the draft table if you know he's gone the next day?

That was a great trade, Chicago was pretty much in a pinch and had to do something, losing those two really hurt that team IMO. Their had to a better alternative with the cap space then that trade.

Who'd they lose in that offseason? I know Buff, Ladd, Versteeg, Niemi and Eager. Anyone else?

Either Dudley isn't THAT good, or Burkie totally ignores his input.

It seems like a very odd predicament indeed, not sure what which would be worse really, him at the leafs draft table or Montreal's. I get the feeling that he is going to be asked by Burke to be at neither. I don't remember anything quite like this ever happening exec wise. The fact that it is between the habs and the leafs will magnify it to something outta nothing x 1000. Was funny reading leaf fans calling the habs classless because of them wanting to hire a leaf exec, how it should be or is borderline illegal, considering the habs have lost more than their fair share of coaches and execs the last few years to this.

Buff has almost cult status here in the Peg. He's a disaster in his own zone but great offensively, fun to watch and has a canon of a shot.
